The Alberta Court of Justice will recognize the importance of working collaboratively with First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities, and have a working knowledge around the Truth and Reconciliation Commission calls to action. Role Responsibilities

Come join a talented group of professionals dedicated to the administration of justice. As a Judicial Assistant, working in a team environment, you will be responsible for providing administrative and legal support in the Alberta Court of Justice, Office of the Chief Justice. You will be responsible for, but not limited to, managing a wide range of administrative functions, making travel arrangements, handling sensitive and confidential information, processing expense claims, handling incoming telephone inquiries and mail, coordinating meetings and organizing and preparing supporting documents, and performing other related duties as required. You will also provide back-up to other Judicial Assistants.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess strong communication and problem-solving skills, ability to pay attention to detail and will be highly motivated and creative in managing multiple tasks with competing deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 is an asset.

Your excellent knowledge of the court system, court procedures and relevant legislation will allow you to be successful in this position.

Competencies for this position include excellent communication and judgment, time management skills, attention to detail, punctuality, multi-tasking, ability to work independently and without supervision, conflict management, dependability, professionalism, diplomacy, flexibility, and a good working knowledge of law procedures and practices.

The successful candidates must act in a responsible and professional manner reflecting the fair and equitable delivery of justice in Alberta.

Qualifications

A two-year diploma in a related field (e.g., Legal Assistant, Legal Administration, and Paralegal) supplemented with at least one year progressively responsible related experience. Experience working in the court system providing support to multiple stakeholders is preferred.
Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of one year of education for one year of related legal experience or one year of legal experience for one year of related education.

Assets include:

  • Previous experience as a Judicial Assistant
  • Previous experience as an Executive Assistant.
  • A Legal Assistant diploma.
  • Experience working in a Court environment, preferably with the Court of Justice.
  • Experience working in M365 environment.

Candidates may be asked to do further testing.

Selected candidates will be asked to complete typing and grammar tests prior to scheduling an interview. Typing speed of at least 50 WPM is required. Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification.

There is a permanent position for the Edmonton Location – Office of the Chief Justice, Court of Justice, full-time, working Monday to Friday 8:15AM - 4:30PM, 36.25 hours a week.

In your resume, please include dates (including months and years) associated with all education and work experience. Also, please indicate whether your work experience is casual, part-time or full-time. For example: January 15, 2006 - June 25, 2009: Assistant (PT three 8 hrs shifts/week).
