Join the Accounting Operations Team, in the Team Leader, Accounting and Statutory Reporting position. Your leadership skills and passion for accounting will contribute to deliver accounting services for CMHC, Pension Fund and the Canada Housing Trust as well as providing related support to all Sectors with financial reporting entries and account reconciliations, payroll accounting, tax, cost allocation, financial code requests and chart of accounts, and master data management. What you’ll do:

  • Supervise and monitor day-to-day activities and operations relating to financial reporting for CMHC, Pension Fund and CHT, payroll accounting, tax, cost allocation, financial code requests and chart of accounts maintenance, vendor and customer master data management. Oversee the accuracy and completeness of accounting records and reconciliations as well as related statements and reports. Ensure adherence to current accounting standards as well as proper implementation of new accounting standards. 
  • Advise on implementing new accounting policies, processes, systems, and internal controls. Analyze financial information of increased complexity, which could involve multiple stakeholders and/or dependencies.
  • Provide advice and guidance to clients on the development of cost driver analysis, the allocation and re-allocation of actual costs and correlation to allocation of budgets. Support internal client groups, ranging from middle management to senior VPs, providing guidance, advice, and recommendations regarding special initiatives and unique business cases and be accountable for guidelines, policies, and risk management.
  • Contribute to initiatives which monitor the effectiveness of accounting policies, processes and systems, and highlights areas where changes may be required, which includes costing, risk management, oversight, analysis and managing reporting requirements, funding, and budgeting.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with all clients, leaders, and other relevant stakeholders to gain a thorough understanding of the operations and environment, to facilitate collaboration in accomplishing finance tasks, and to influence complex business decisions.
  • Support the Accounting Operations team’s Managers and Director in complying with the external audit, including the timely provision of reports, explanations, data, and related information, as required by the external auditors. Ensure financial compliance with organizational policies and procedures and applicable legal rules and regulations.
  • Coach and guide the team to find solutions to address identified gaps. Set objectives and establish clear expectations for successful performance by providing ongoing feedback/coaching while fostering innovation, continuous improvement, and accountability for results. Coordinate and prioritize work activities to contribute to employee engagement, organizational objectives, and results.

What you should have:

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field such as accounting, finance, business administration, economics, or commerce.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in accounting with a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory/ project leadership experience, as well as a demonstrated ability to lead teams, including the ability to provide coaching and feedback.
  • A good knowledge of relevant financial, legislative, and regulatory environments as well as an extensive knowledge of financial statements and general accounting principles, including cost allocation methodologies and best practices.
  • Excellent ability to gather and analyze information, synthesize key elements, and summarize recommendations.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, knowledge of financial software applications and strong computer skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and work in a high-stress, multi-demand environment.
  • A demonstrated experience streamlining processes and implementing ongoing efficiencies to meet business needs.
  • A demonstrated ability to persuade, influence and/or negotiate with others on a regular basis.
  • Strong interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, judgment), oral, and written communication and client service skills, including the ability to speak and write clearly and succinctly in both official languages (English and French), in a variety of settings and styles to a variety of stakeholders.


It would be great if you also had:

  • A Master of Business Administration (MBA)
  • A professional accounting designation (CPA).
  • Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Financial Operations (ERP Software)
  • A Lean Six Sigma certification
