As a Senior Accountant in the Finance function, your main focus will be to oversee and managing key accounting functions. This role demands a blend of analytical, strategic, and leadership skills to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with tax laws, effective budget management, and internal controls. In this role you establish financial status by implementing systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information Key responsibilities include financial analysis, budgeting, tax preparation, audit support, and process improvement. This role is pivotal for the financial health and strategic planning for the market.
This hybrid role reports into our Accounting Manager for Canada and is based out of the Toronto Support Office.
A Day in the Life
Working at H&M means no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will include the following responsibilities*
Complete monthly close of books; preparing general ledger entries including accruals and prepaid in accordance with IFRS
Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, GL accounts, and financial reports and journalize and reconcile other GL accounts as needed
Preform monthly variance analysis on P&L (Profit & Loss) and balance sheet accounts and field questions within the organization
Assist in development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures along with internal control mechanisms to mitigate financial risk
Provides leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization
Analyze cost variances to previous actuals and budget
Prepare, execute and record payment of monthly remittances, including sales taxes, custom/duties and international wire payments
Assists in planning for changes in regulation, organizational structure, and reporting requirements
Delegates, reviews, and follows up on work with Junior and Clerical Accountant(s)
Identify and implement ideas to streamline the accounting processes and create operational accounting policies and procedures
Support business changes and impact on financial systems including information from feeder systems
Work cross functionally with other groups within the organization identifying issues, trouble shooting, problem solving and identifying new ways of working
Primary contact with auditors preparing schedules, documentations, and supporting financials
Prepares and assist in review of year-end financial reporting package
Prepare ad hoc reports for Department and Function Heads as required
Takes lead and assists in special projects as needed
Who You Are:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business preferred, working towards a professional certification or Master’s Degree considered an asset
Minimum 5 years of work experience in a corporate accounting department or public accounting firm
Supervisory experience preferred
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Ability to work in a fast-paced and time sensitive environment independently
Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving ability
Possesses strong leadership and communication skills with ability to develop and supervise team colleagues
Team player who is optimistic and driven
Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
Ability to enforce and uphold company policies with teams
