Job Description - Senior Forensic Accountant

The   Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is a regulatory agency that reports to the Ministry of the Attorney General. The AGCO is responsible for regulating the alcohol, gaming, horseracing, and private cannabis retail sectors in Ontario, in accordance with the principles of honesty and integrity, and in the public interest.
The Audit and Financial Investigations (AFI) team works collaboratively with other compliance branches to enable effective regulatory risk management and improve regulatory outcomes. AFI carries out risk-based audits and reviews across all regulated sectors provides advice and insights to internal partners and delivers objective and reliable results that support effective regulatory responses. We are building a new type of audit function, one that has the skills and capabilities that will be important as a modern regulator, focused on service excellence and people first.
We are currently seeking a highly motivated   Senior Forensic Accountant to work within the Financial Investigations Unit. As part of AFI, the Financial Investigations Unit works closely with the Licensing and Registration Branch and Investigations and Enforcement Bureau to carry out investigations and reviews to support licensing and registration decisions.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Investigations, you will use your advanced accounting and investigative skills to:
  • Conduct complex forensic examinations, due diligence, fraud, misuse of funds, and other investigations of gaming, cannabis, liquor and horseracing applicants, licensees, and registrants.
  • Collaborate with the Enforcement Bureau staff to ensure investigations are carried out effectively and on a timely basis.
  • Contribute forensic accounting expertise to AFI's audit teams and advise Licensing and Registration Branch staff on financial and governance issues; and
  • Lead and/or contribute to practice development activities.

How do I qualify?

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Professional accounting and forensic accounting designations (CPA; CFF and/or CFE).
  • Demonstrated experience conducting financial reviews and investigations.
  • Strong case management skills while delivering quality results within expected timelines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills with a proven record of building solid working relationships with colleagues, management, and external stakeholders, including senior industry executives; and
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to write formal reports and provide expert testimony in legal proceedings.
  • The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and will be subject to a criminal background check.
