Database Architect

Here's the role

Reporting to the Manager, Data and Architecture, the Database Architect is responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining GMS's core data storage services on Azure Cloud, and their integrations with other systems. This includes designing and building data models for GMS's structured, semi-structured and unstructured data as well as maintaining and supporting operational databases. The ideal candidate will communicate with various GMS stakeholders to assess needs and goals, design and manage database/warehouse architecture and deliver top-notch database development solutions. Additionally, the Database Architect will be assisting the data engineers with designing and building high-standard and efficient data pipelines.

Position Responsibilities

•Design and build database systems, data models and other data architecture components.

•Implement and manage organizational database/data warehouse standards that are in line with GMS business processes.

•Coordinate and collaborate with GMS's stakeholders, vendors, and cross-functional teams to build enterprise data storage services.

•Evaluate current data architecture and databases to determine improvements and enhancements for GMS's new data storage services.

•Ensure all data structures are in strict compliance with insurance industry standards as well as GMS regulations.

•Build and maintain a repository of all data architecture artifacts, including but not limited to conceptual, logical, and physical data models, and DDL scripts.

•Manage database systems and their performance, security, and backups.

•Perform database and data warehouse administration activities.

•Provide recommendations and data pipeline design best practices to Data engineers.

Education & Experience

•Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related program.

•Minimum 8 years of solid experience in working with and maintaining relational databases.

•High proficiency in designing and building relational and dimensional data models.

•Proven experience with a wide variety of data and data storage technologies.

•Strong SQL development and database administration skills.

•Experience with Azure Database services is an asset.
