Position Title: Drone Operations Manager
Location: Sioux Lookout or Thunder Bay
Position Type: Full-Time
Start Date: May 1, 2024
Position Summary:
The purpose of this position is to provide oversight for IFNA’s Drone Operations. IFNA’s Drone Operations operate Unmanned Vehicles (UV’s) for emergencies (forest fires, floods, tornado, etc.) through member communities, while also maintaining IFNA’s forward operating bases. The successful applicant will oversee forward operating bases (1), human resources, a drone fleet, maintenance and repair operations, and training coordination of UV pilots in First Nations and regional locations (Thunder Bay or Sioux Lookout). The Drone Operations Manager will also report to IFNA’s CEO/Board of Directors on progress, challenges, finances and long-term outlook.
Qualifications & Responsibilities

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Minimum grade 12 education
• Asset management of facilities and equipment related to emergency services
• Project Management skills
• Multi-tasking skills
• Human resources management
• Administration of financial costs associated to programming
• Reporting to funding partners
• Basic understanding of drone operations
• Maintain IFNA database related to flight operations
• Ensure IFNA Drone Operations are in compliance with all federal regulations and legislation pertaining to drone operation in Canada
• Proficient in Microsoft related programs (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
• Have the ability to travel for extended periods of time through Ontario’s north to remote First Nations
• Valid Driver’s license
• Preferably UAV experience in planning flight paths, flight operations and after-action reports
• Have the ability to manage high pressure situations
• Ability to build relationships with stakeholders, partners and community members
• Ability to speak and write in English fluently
Assets
· Formal training and experience in the airline industry
· Repair/Maintenance of drone fleet
· Basic Drone License (mandatory)
· Advanced Drone License (mandatory)
· BVLOS License (not mandatory)
· Ability to speak one or more local dialects (Oji-cree or anishinaabemowin) from within IFNA communities is considered an asset
Accountability:
• The Drone Operations Manager reports directly to TBD
Schedule
· Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, with the exception of during emergencies
· Some after hours and weekends when necessary (in emergency situations)
Ability to Commute:
· Access to transportation (mileage allowance provided)
· Travel to IFNA communities via small aircraft and/or emergency vehicles regularly
Other
· Successful candidate must complete a Criminal Records check, including Vulnerable Sector Search
· Vaccination against covid-19
· Class G drivers license.
