Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced sawyer to join our team. As a sawyer, you will be responsible for operating various sawing equipment and cutting wood to meet the specific requirements of our customers. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1-3+ years of experience in a sawing role, possess strong physical stamina, and demonstrate a passion for delivering high-quality workmanship. As a Sawyer you will be leading the sawmill and responsible for quality control, on-time delivery, leading staff, organizing the site, and creating effective systems to maximize operations.

Responsibilities:

• Wood Cutting and Shaping: Utilise sawing equipment, such as circular saws, band saws, and table saws, to accurately cut wood according to specifications.
• Precision Measurements: Take precise measurements and mark wood materials for accurate cuts, ensuring proper alignment and adherence to customer requirements.
• Equipment Operation: Safely and efficiently operate sawing equipment, following established procedures and safety guidelines.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean and organised work area.
• Quality Assurance: Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards, including smooth edges, proper dimensions, and adherence to customer specifications.
• Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on sawing equipment to ensure optimal performance and report any malfunctions or repairs needed.
• Physical Demands: This is a physically demanding role that requires lifting and moving heavy materials, standing for long periods, and working in various weather conditions.
• Collaboration: Work collaboratively with team members, including other sawyers and mill operators, to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of projects.
• Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of production activities, including materials used, project progress, and any issues encountered, to facilitate reporting and analysis.
• Leadership: You will be expected to lead the team that is working with you.
• Organization: You will be expected to keep the site functional, clean and well organized well conducting your role.
• Systems Thinking: You will be required to create and maintain effective working systems to maximize production and minimize waste.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Minimum of 1-3+ year sof experience as a sawyer in a sawmill environment.
• Proficiency in operating various sawing equipment, such as circular saws, band saws, table saws, and related tools.
• Strong understanding of wood properties and cutting techniques to optimise material usage and minimise waste.
• Familiarity with safety protocols and practices in a woodworking or sawmill environment.
• Excellent physical stamina and ability to perform demanding physical tasks, such as lifting heavy materials and standing for long periods.
• Detail-oriented mindset with excellent measurement and precision skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high level of productivity.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with colleagues and follow instructions accurately.

Compensation:

• The salary for this position will range from $25 to $35 per hour, depending on experience.
