Job Description - Laboratory Coordinator

Job Description The Opportunity: Make your mark while you grow your career! As the Horizon Laboratory Coordinator, you will have the opportunity to work with Laboratory Customers (Process/Production Engineers, Operations, Environmental, Maintenance and Production Planning Departments) throughout the Horizon Mine to provide analytical solutions related to upstream and downstream process troubleshooting, sampling and production challenges. You will work collaboratively with the contract laboratory supplier, to provide accurate and timely analytical data, supporting operations and other Canadian Natural business units.
  • Job location: Horizon Site - Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 4 x 3, 10-hour shift
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop effective working relationships with Laboratory Customers and the Laboratory Services Contractor.
  • Address a wide range of process related technical problems by implementing projects and providing interpretation of data.
  • Oversee the successful completion of projects in a cost effective manner within assigned timeframes and provide an executive summary for the close out of projects.
  • For specialty testing or studies, source and coordinate activities directly with third party laboratories.
  • Manage the expectations of internal and external customers to assure that the laboratory produces timely, accurate and traceable data.
What You Bring To The Role
  • Analytical sciences diploma or a bachelor’s degree in science or technology.
  • A minimum of 5 years of Analytical Laboratory experience, preferably in a refinery or an Oil Sands Mining/Extraction/Upgrading facility
  • Process problem solving experience and data interpretation
  • Intermediate knowledge of refinery processes and operations
  • Working knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) programs
