The Real Assets Business Management (RABM) group within the Real Assets (RA) investment department is responsible for all operational, non-investment activities across the department. Specifically, our mandate is to orchestrate information flows between investment groups, RA leadership, and Enabling Functions, across the following areas: 

  • Short-term capital budget;
  • Business planning;
  • Select aspects of reporting; and
  • Various enterprise projects touching on RA’s operations. 

We are recruiting for a Director in the Toronto office. The role will report directly to the Head of the RABM team.

Role-specific Accountabilities:

Infrastructure Group Support

  • Act as the lead RABM representative to the Infrastructure Group (within Real Assets), supporting their operational needs and enabling first-line execution of investment processes and reporting. 
  • Oversee the capital management process, including deep dive analysis into RA portfolio actuals, updating monthly pipeline cash requirements, and tracking overall capital usage against the approved budget.
  • Provide relevant investment activity and broader business context to support Board, Senior Management Team (SMT), and departmental reporting.
  • Oversee the business planning process, including objective, budget, and workforce planning.
  • Support the review of operating performance (e.g. analyzing operating expense and investment expense performance vs. budget, including major drivers of divergence).
  • Help with the coordination of the Infrastructure Investment Committee. 

Cross-department/Fund activities

  • Oversee and/or lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize Department and/or Fund operations.
  • Represent RA in enterprise-wide initiatives and act as a critical link between RA and the rest of the organization.  
  • Execute ad-hoc reporting and analysis to support business management and investment decisions as needed.
  • Manage and help ensure adherence to department policies and procedures (including training for investment teams where relevant). 
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant investment industry experience
  • An undergraduate degree and/or graduate degree  
  • Private market knowledge and experience (preferred)
  • At least 3-5 years of talent development and people management experience
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)  
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management and relationship-building ability
  • Demonstrated analytical and structured problem-solving skills
  • Mindset toward continuous improvement and demonstrated track record of process enhancement
  • Comfortable with working across diverse teams
  • Ability to work in a high-performing culture, under pressure and with time-sensitive deadlines
  • Must exemplify CPP Investments’ guiding principles of Integrity, Partnership and High Performance
