Affordability and Utilities is responsible for leading and coordinating government’s ongoing efforts to make everyday life more affordable, with particular focus on the province’s utilities sector and electricity system. The Utilities Consumer Advocate (UCA) has a mandate to educate and mediate for Alberta’s small business, farm, and residential electricity, natural gas and water consumers, and advocate for energy consumers. We educate through a wide range of outreach and engagement activities; advocate by representing the interests of consumers; and mediate disputes between consumers and utility companies. The Utilities Consumer Advocate (UCA) Branch in the Affordability Division is seeking to fill a permanent position responsible for ensuring effective and seamless contract coordination and procurement processes. Reporting to the Manager of Regulatory Operations, the Contract Coordinator supports the UCA's goals and objectives by facilitating the Branch's contracting and procurement functions. This involves processing competitive procurements, coordinating the contracting process, assisting in the evaluation of competitive bids, and tracking contracts from initiation to completion. This position ensures that the procurement processes comply with the policies and procedures established by the Government of Alberta, the Department, and the Division. Key responsibilities include:
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate personal initiative in establishing and cultivating positive relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders, including Legal Services, the Contract Management Unit, and Procurement Services of Service Alberta. Strong process coordination skills and detail-orientation skills are also essential to streamline contract processes, enhance efficiencies, and support modernization efforts. Additionally, the candidate will work with Procurement Services teams to ensure efficient sharing of data and information.
High school diploma and four (4) years of related experience in areas such as Contract management, government procurement etc. Equivalencies may be applied on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience OR 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
