Role Responsibilities

Are you looking for a great opportunity to provide support for the prosecution of criminal and provincial offences? The Alberta Crown Prosecution Service has opportunities available for Legal Assistant within the Bail unit. As the successful candidate you will:

  • Utilize the Justice Online Information network (JOIN) to verify charges, court dates, release documents, JOIN tracking sheets.
  • Independently searches and obtains missing documentation and information sent from policing agencies.
  • Utilize Prosescutor information System Manager (PRISM) to add notes when required for future court dates, finding documents for the present bail hearing.
  • Utilize Criminal E-File to access additional information.
  • Responsible for ingestion of bail package utilizing Globalscape
  • Cref Utilize the Bail Hearing list to ensure all bail herings are entered, packages are uploaded and current status is updated regularly. Ensuring the tight deadlines are met.
  • Work closely with Duty Counsel and Defence Councel when sending disclosure following the strict policy and procedures in relation to releasing disclosure packages.


As the Ideal candidate you possess:

  • A comprehensive understanding of the Justice system and processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational ability and attention to detail
  • Problem solving skills
  • The ability to work independently and in a team

Qualifications

Two-year diploma in a related field such as a Legal Assistant, Paralegal or Criminology, plus a minimum of one year progressively responsible related experience working in a legal administrative role within an office setting. Equivalencies considered:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education


Required
Experience working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Assets

  • Experience working with Adobe, JOIN, PRISM, Criminal eFile, and the Bail Hearing list.

This opportunity is located in Edmonton Hours of work per week: 36.25 hours/week. This job has a shift rotation of 3 days, 3 evenings and 3 days off. Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.

  • There are two temporary positions, one for two (2) years and one for six (6) months both position has the possibility to extend
