Position Switchboard Operator Status Temporary Casual Department Communications POSTING #(S): 10514 Reports To Program Manager LOCATION: Met Campus Shift POSTING DATE: Shift Outcome Based on Seniority Closing Date SALARY RANGE: $ 24.090 - $26.620 Union IBEW Job Summary Reporting to the Director, Guest Services/Clinical Nutrition or designate, the Switchboard Operator is responsible for receiving and dispatching all calls to the hospital switchboard quickly and efficiently. Further, he/she is responsible for dealing with all inquiries from the public in a polite and courteous manner and giving directions as required. The Switchboard Operator complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment. Duties Include Receiving and connecting all incoming calls to appropriate departments; accessing long distance lines for patients, staff, and doctors as required; monitoring and initiating procedures on all alarms, Code Blues, Code Reds, Code Orange, Code White, Code Yellow, Green Alerts and Stat Calls; initiating and following -up on all paging, including overhead and pocket pagers; providing information and direction courteously and in a timely manner to individuals requesting same. Information regarding patients may be accessed via the patient care computer terminals located at the board. Performing miscellaneous duties, generally of a sorting or compiling nature, as assigned by the Telecommunications Supervisor or his/her designate Qualifications Excellent verbal communication skills - required Demonstrated Ability To Interact Effectively With Others - Required Mature responsible attitude - required Available to work all shifts - required Previous experience on a hospital switchboard telephone system - preferred Keyboarding Skills – Required Working in a computerized windows environment – required Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment General good health and a level of fitness appropriate to the demands of the position Education/Training Experience Grade XII education or equivalent – required Windsor Regional Hospital is an equal opportunity employer.
