What can I expect to do in this role?
In this position, you will be responsible for: • maintaining court lists utilizing established scheduling practices • collecting and compiling statistical reports • attending court to set dates and monitor case flow • providing administrative and secretarial services
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
• You are able to type 50 words per minute.
Organizational, Judgment and Analytical Skills:
• You have proven organizational and planning skills to schedule court sittings and coordinate judicial resources and facilities for optimal usage • You possess the ability to work under pressure and to prioritize, multi-task and complete work to meet deadlines • You have judgement and problem-solving skills to identity and resolve issues • You have analytical skills to research and respond to inquiries and resolve conflicts successfully
Technical Knowledge and Experience:
• You have knowledge of relevant legislations (e.g., Courts of Justice Act, Criminal Code of Canada, Criminal Rules, Family Law Act) • You have the ability to work within court procedures including knowledge of legal terminology and documents • You have demonstrated legal secretarial and administrative experience
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
• You have excellent written communication skills to compose correspondence and transcribe judgments • You have excellent oral communication skills to work cooperatively and to effectively liaise and negotiate, using tact and diplomacy, with judges, staff, counsel and the public • You have interpersonal skills to deal with confidential and sensitive information
Computer Skills:
• You have demonstrated computer skills using applications such as Microsoft Office, e-mail, Internet and the Intranet
