Job Summary:


Galore Creek Mining Corporation is seeking a Camp Lead to support field operations at the Galore Creek Project in northwest British Columbia.  Initially reporting to the Field Operations Supervisor, this role is primarily responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the camp, including supervision of camp maintenance, catering and janitorial staff or contracts, in accordance with Galore Creek policies and procedures and regulatory requirements. 


Overview:


Galore Creek Mining Corp operates two camps on the project site.  One road accessible camp (~96 person capacity) and one helicopter supported camp (~131 person capacity).  Each camp requires a Camp Lead and cross shift. Start date for this role is anticipated to be February 2023.


This position will be based at the Galore Creek project site on a 17 days in, 11 days out rotational basis inclusive of travel. This rotation is subject to change as planning evolves.

Key Responsibilities:


General:

  • Act as a Courageous Safety Leader, leading by example and fostering a proactive safety and sustainability culture on the common values of health, safety, environment, and social responsibility shared by Teck and Newmont (the Partners).
  • Working with the Site Operations team to schedule, plan, and provide accommodation to staff during the execution of Environmental, Technical, and Site Sustaining Operations.
  • Supervising camp services including maintenance, catering and janitorial, ensuring compliance with GCMC procedures and Provincial and Federal regulations as they pertain to camps.
  • Ensure required water and wastewater sampling is completed and meets permit requirements.
  • Managing camp projects from inception to completion.
  • Develop multiyear plans for sustaining site assets.
  • Participate in GCMC Health and Safety program (Including SOP and JSA development, daily participation in daily tailgate safety meetings and reviews).


Supervisory:

  • Supervision of camp catering, janitorial, and maintenance staff
  • Supervision of contractors where required.
  • Participate in project management meetings.
  • Providing mentorship and leadership for the site catering, janitorial, and maintenance and  staff.
  • Oversight of labour crews and mobile equipment crews conducting camp maintenance activities as required.
  • Manage food and cleaning supply inventories.
  • Review and approve menus and grocery orders.
  • Manage maintenance equipment and supply inventories.


Reporting / Inspection:

  • Daily reporting of camp numbers.
  • Book, assign and track rooms for field staff.
  • Document and report water and wastewater sampling results.
  • Document and report water and wastewater flows.
  • Document and report incinerator volumes.
  • Maintain camp checklists and audits and report out weekly.
  • Assist in year-end reporting.


The above accountabilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.


Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of camp maintenance or camp management experience with increasing responsibility, preferably in mining and/or construction. 
  • Have a good working knowledge of:
  • Furnaces, hot water tanks, propane systems, fuel systems, incinerators, appliances, kitchen equipment, dishwashers, washers, and dryers
  • Workforce accommodation scheduling software such as Nomadis or similar.
  • Sewage RBC Systems as well as field and lagoon systems is an asset.
  • Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. 
  • Ability to work in remote terrain, uneven surfaces, and all-weather conditions. 
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Must hold or be capable of obtaining a Mines Supervisory Certificate.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Experience working with and around large mobile equipment.
  • High School diploma or better.
  • Certified trade skills are a strong asset.
  • FoodSafe certification is an asset.
  • WHMIS certification is an asset.
  • Small Water / Wastewater operator’s ticket is an asset.
  • Training in water quality testing is an asset.
  • Forklift/bobcat operation certification is an asset.
