Job Description:Job Description We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team. The Estimator will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs of construction projects and providing detailed proposals. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of construction estimating, project management, and the ability to negotiate prices. Duties:Coordinate with department personnel to assist in reviewing upcoming projects and establishing projects that are suitable for bidding.Assess scope and location of the job, making site visits as required, attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work required to complete the project.Prepare complete estimates to include labour, equipment, material, and subtrade quotes according to plans and specifications.Assemble accurate, timely and well-organized estimates for stipulated sum, construction management, and design build type contracts.Develop and assist with preparation of bid package estimate documents.Assist with preparation of proposed construction schedule for upcoming project prior to tender submission.Assist in the establishment of bidding strategy with ownership group and construction manager.Perform quantity takeoff for various scopes, including self-performed work: concrete foundations, wood framing, siding, windows and doors, interior finishes, and specialties.Issue invitations to and follow up with subtrades to track interested bidders.Receive and respond to construction related questions from subtrades and suppliers.Participate in project handover meetings with Operations.Issue RFIs to design consultants to clarify scope and inconsistencies and/or gaps in tender documents.Perform active role in working with a team during competitive tender closing.Build and update estimate spreadsheet during tender period.Identify areas of possible cost savings and bring to attention of construction manager.Proactively look for new leads and potential projects through personal interactions, job postings, bid platforms, networking and technology.Attend regularly scheduled meetings with other team members and management to provide updates on progress of workMaintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and contracts Requirements:Knowledge of architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical systems for buildings and ability to review drawings and specifications to establish scope and estimate costs.Knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations.Awareness of basic principles and application of construction safety programs.Able to read and understand blueprints.Able to work with a team towards a common goal.Comfortable with working under pressure with tight timeline during tender closing period.Ability to review and assess subtrade quotes for completeness.Knowledge of standard specification format and divisions of work used in commercial construction.Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, MS Project, Outlook, Word)Ability to read and interpret contract specifications, drawings, and other construction documents.
