Our client is a consulting engineering firm with a strong history of providing mechanical & electrical engineering services to clients within the mission critical, commercial, institutional, and industrial building projects. Their growing office in Toronto is currently seeking a talented designer / technologist to join the electrical team.
Your new role Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, the designer / technologist is responsible for completing small to large-scale projects within established budgets and deadlines. He or she produces electrical engineering concepts and drawings. He or she has experience, knowledge and skills in building electricity, integrates company knowledge and manages project priorities. He or she acts as a resource person for less experienced colleagues.
The designer / technologist works independently, prioritizing work according to overall objectives.
RESPONSABILITIES :
- Supervise, produce and design, in collaboration with the engineers, the engineering documents, plans, specifications, addendums and change notices required for the realization of building projects, low and medium voltage electrical distribution systems, motor controls and protection, fire alarms, generators, lighting and UPS systems, in compliance with established standards;
- Carry out drawings interdisciplinary coordination;
- Estimate construction costs and quantities in accordance with standard methods and established plans and specifications;
- Create tables, lists, calculations and estimates;
- Perform various simulations using specialized software;
- Carry out studies and write technical reports in collaboration with an engineer;
- Perform site surveys, inspections, reports and site supervision, including coordination with contractors;
- Review and annotate shop drawings under the supervision of an engineer;
- Participate in the quality assurance of engineering documents in its discipline;
- Honor commitments, including deadlines for deliverables, and promptly communicate any problems encountered to the project manager;
- Participate in the continuous improvement of drawing preparation (standards, work methods, tools).
What you'll need to succeed
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- College diploma in electrical engineering or the equivalent;
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in engineering services;
- Technical knowledge: low voltage electrical distribution systems, motor controls and protections, fire alarms, generators and lighting systems;
- Technical knowledge: medium voltage electrical distribution systems, UPS systems (an asset);
- Knowledge of the codes and standards in force, including the National Electrical Code and the National Building Code;
- Knowledge of mechanical systems linked to electrical systems (an asset);
- Fluency in spoken and written English;
- Excellent Knowledge of Autocad;
- Good knowledge of the Office suite;
- Knowledge of Revit, ETAP, Easypower and AGI32 (an asset);
- Have a valid driver's license.
