Estimator/Project Manager

Job Description:Job Description Job Summary: You will be responsible for preparing, coordinating and managing estimates: focusing on underground utilities, public, and private civil projects in the Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley area. This will involve, but not limited to, helping prepare tenders and bid forms, project costing, help with the dispatching of labour and/or subcontractors, project communication and documentation. The successful candidate will have responsibilities throughout the entire project lifecycle, from the tendering process to project closeout. Job Duties: · Ensure bidding accuracy through all phases of the bidding process · Attend project meetings, effectively organize and communicate to ensure effective communication among all relevant stakeholders · Prepare (discipline estimates by calculating) complete quantity takeoff based on scope of work · Review proposal specifications, contract documents including general conditions, tender form, drawings, and required price breakdowns · Review final estimate and apply strategic cost factors where necessary · Identify ambiguities and unique technical requirements of the bid · Identify potential bid opportunities from both public & private sectors · Attend project pre-tender meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimates when necessary · Perform Risk and Contract Management responsibilities as required · Evaluate proposed construction methodologies to determine the best solutions based on cost, quality, and availability of materials · Review, prepare and submit Request For Quotation (RFQ)'s from vendors and subcontractors · Consult with clients, vendors and other stakeholders to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve potential issues · Review and analyze actual project costing and production information against estimates, and develop historical databases · Prepare bids, select vendors and/or subcontractors and determine cost effectiveness of projects to be bid · Follow awarded contracts as assigned – may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits Job Requirements: · Expertise with cost estimating processes, and standards in all formats, including Lump Sum and Unit Rate contracts · Ability to make decisions in a timely manner, sometimes with incomplete data and under tight deadlines and pressure · Demonstrated knowledge of equipment types and different civil construction methods · Knowledge and experience in developing labour, equipment, and other construction cost rates · Thorough knowledge (ideally with hands on application) in the construction of earthwork, paving, underground, and grading practices · Strong coordination and organizational skills · Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills · Strong problem solving and analytical skills and the desire to seek solutions · Excellent knowledge of computer software solutions such as, AutoCAD, 2D/3D takeoff suites, ERP Solutions and Microsoft Office · Undergraduate Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering (optional) · Eligibility for registration as a P.Eng or AScT (optional) · Minimum of 10+ years’ of civil construction experience, with at least 2 years in an Estimator/Project Manager capacity ***Thank you for your interest in MAREX Constructors Ltd.*** ***All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.*** ***Anyone who can legally work in Canada can apply for this job.*** ***If you are not currently authorized to work in Canada, the employer will not consider your job application.*** ***Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.*** ***We believe in providing an inclusive workplace where all our employees have the opportunity to grow.*** Company Description MAREX Constructors Ltd. is an Abbotsford based civil construction firm that has been serving the Fraser Valley since 1976 in the areas of earthworks, roadworks and underground utilities.Company Description:MAREX Constructors Ltd. is an Abbotsford based civil construction firm that has been serving the Fraser Valley since 1976 in the areas of earthworks, roadworks and underground utilities.
