Job Description - Health and Safety Advisor

KGS Group is currently looking to fill a permanent position for a Health and Safety Advisor for our Ontario offices. KGS Group has offices in both Mississauga and Thunder Bay, both offices will be considered based on right fit candidates. This position will serve the needs of the company as a whole with a focus on Ontario.

The Role

KGS Group is looking for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor who will report directly to the Health & Safety Manager, while always working in a spirit of cooperation and consultation with all other stakeholders. The Health & Safety Advisor is an integral part of the Health & Safety department, aiding in the research and development required as part of the continual improvement system.

Your Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ongoing program development (policy, practice, and procedure) based on the continuous improvement method (Plan, Check, Act, Do)
  • Provide an exceptional employee experience for each new employee through the H&S orientation process, integrating them into the KGS culture “Safety is Priority #1”.
  • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate training sessions for the organization.
  • Complete site inspections as required and report findings to Supervisors, Department Heads and the Health & Safety Manager.
  • Conduct incident investigations in partnership with local H&S committees / Worker Representatives
  • Ensure all health & safety records and statistics are maintained accurately and, when necessary, confidentially.

About You

To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some highlights could include:

  • Has National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) Designation.
  • Has completed National COR audits with the IHSA (Registered Auditor Preferred).
  • Has 5+ years’ experience in a health and safety advisor / coordinator role.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation in Ontario (multiple provinces preferred).
  • Detail oriented, able to multitask and can communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders at all levels of the business.
  • Strong relationship builder and can build trust and rapport with individuals across all departments and levels.
  • A good understanding of computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to keep sensitive information confidential.
  • Experience with 3rd party verification systems a plus (ISNetworld, Comply Works etc.)
  • Experience with the ISO auditing system (ISO 45001)
