About WDBA Company Profile Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the largest bi-national infrastructure project in North America today – the Gordie Howe International Bridge. Join our Canadian Crown corporation in fulfilling our mandate to build and operate this new international bridge at the busiest commercial land border crossing between Canada and the US. The Gordie Howe International Bridge project is a once-in-a-generation undertaking. Worth $6.4 billion (CDN), the project includes the delivery of four major components: the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America, the largest Canadian and US Ports of Entry (POE) along the Canada-US border, and a new interchange creating a direct connection into the Michigan Interstate system. About The Role

As a member of the Corporate Affairs and External Relations team, reporting to the Director, Communications, you will contribute to supporting the development, planning and implementation of all aspects of WDBA’s internal and external communications. These efforts include working with WDBA and Bridging North America colleagues, Michigan partners, and others to improve the visibility and grow the reputation of WDBA and the Gordie Howe International Bridge.
The Manager, Communications is responsible for managing staff and providing direct supervision with the creation, execution, maintenance and evaluation of communications strategies. These strategies include media opportunities that serve to enhance the organization’s public profile within the Canadian and US landscape, that serve to secure the ongoing positive perception of WDBA’s efforts and activities and that serve to support WDBA’s strategic objectives and business priorities. Position Qualifications And Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications Studies, Business Administration or a related field from a recognized university, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 7+ years in developing, implementing, and evaluating multi-media communications strategies, programs and plans and managing issues in a complex environment.
  • Experience in government and public relations.
  • Experience in providing strategic advice and services to management.
  • Experience in issues management including crisis communications.
  • Experience in preparing messaging to respond to media inquiries and working with the press.
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic communications plans.
  • Experience in media relations, web and online strategies, and event management.
  • Demonstrated change agent with experience in managing and successfully delivering key strategic projects.
  • Financial acumen and project management skills including knowledge of budget management principles and practices.
  • Experience working with consultants/contractors.
  • Experience on large infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Previous experience working for the Canadian federal government considered an asset.
  • Ability to work with internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to edit written material and provide constructive feedback.
  • Sound professional judgement, initiative and the ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions and recommendations, and do so with a strong attention to detail.
  • Must maintain strong political awareness, judgment and sensitivity.
  • A high degree of creativity and passion in communications.
  • Well-rounded knowledge of relationship management and client satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively direct, motivate and mentor staff.
  • MS Office 365.
  • Project tracking software. (E-Builder)
  • Social media best practices.
  • Photography and videography best practices.
  • Website management. (content management system)
  • Design best practices.
  • Ability to obtain a Government of Canada Personnel Screening/Security Clearance (Secret Level).
  • Ability to travel within Ontario and Michigan.
  • Hours of work may include evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to be available for active regular work requirements on-site in Windsor, ON and Detroit, MI.
