Job Description - Manager - Community Relations

BW Gold is a wholly owned subsidiary of Artemis Gold Inc (“Artemis”). Artemis is listed on the TSX Venture exchange, and is a well-financed, growth-oriented gold development company with strong financials aimed at creating shareholder value through the identification, acquisition, and development of gold properties in mining friendly jurisdictions. Our current focus is construction of the Blackwater Mine in central British Columbia approximately 160km southwest of Prince George and 450km northeast of Vancouver.


This is an excellent opportunity for you to join an entrepreneurial organization focused on technical excellence without the bureaucracy of larger firms. You will have the ability to make a significant contribution to the project team as the Company pursues the disciplined development of the Blackwater Mine. Artemis Gold received its BC Mines Act permit for Blackwater Mine in March 2023 enabling the project to move into major works construction.

 

The Community Relations Manager plays a crucial role in building and maintaining positive relationships with local communities and government officials in the project area; and is tasked with ensuring effective communication and engagement with stakeholders, adhering to regulatory requirements, and supporting the company’s social and environmental goals. This role involves coordinating community events, managing feedback mechanisms, and overseeing various community-related initiatives and plans.

  • Develop, maintain, and manage strong and respectful relationships with key stakeholders in non-Indigenous communities in the project region, and with local elected government officials.

  • Develop and maintain annual work plan to support community relations function, and reporting.

  • Manage the execution of community related management plans including the Community Effects Monitoring and Management Plan and the Tenure Holder Communication and Mitigation Plan and Report and all reporting related to the plans.

  • Community engagement and notification as required to adhere to regulatory requirements (e.g. field work, exploration, construction).

  • Track and maintain consultation records.

  • Manage the Community Feedback Mechanism and provide regulatory reporting as required.

  • Maintain a stakeholder matrix and use matrix to plan engagement activities.

  • Build and Maintain relationships with the Community Leaders (Mayors, Regional District, MLA, MP) and Coordinate Community Leaders meetings and other meetings with local elected officials which include the development of agendas, presentation materials, and consultation tracking.

  • Chair the Community Liaison Committee (CLC), which includes agendas, presentation materials, consultation tracking, and annual reporting.

  • Manage the Community Social Investment Program.

  • Support other team members in community outreach in accordance with the work plan, including regulatory initiatives, job fairs, high school visits etc.

  • Maintain strong project profile in region through front office drop ins, provide a welcoming environment, and current project information.

  • Support company’s ESG initiatives, as it relates to community and stakeholder relations and any required reporting in connection thereto.

  • Ensure all communications with the public adhere to approved messaging and maintain a messaging database for regional team use.

  • Attend conferences as required and participate in/oversee tradeshow/exhibition booths.

  • Internal and external reporting as required.

  • Supervise office staff.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (e.g., resource planning, environment, mining, community development, communications).

Experience:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in the community and stakeholder engagement field, having work experience in the mining or resource sector would be an advantage.

Other key competencies:

  • Extensive knowledge of the communities in the mine region (Burns Lake, Fraser Lake, Fort St. James, Vanderhoof, Prince George and Quesnel) including relationships with key contacts and ties to the Vanderhoof community would be considered an asset.
  • Understanding of local issues including multiple land uses, stakeholder engagement, environmental aspects, government relations, community economies and development. 
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, communication tools, and stakeholder engagement software. Working knowledge of Isometrix or other ESG tools is beneficial.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Superior interpersonal, analytical, time management, problem solving, and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and external contacts.
  • Experience planning and delivering events such as public open houses, large meetings, and local community events.
