Job Description - Principal, Project Controls

Want to play a crucial role in meeting the expanding requirements of Glencore Zinc’s capital studies and projects team? Keen to move into a global position that will provide you with plenty of opportunities to demonstrate your solid expertise? The role in a nutshell As a key player of the Capital Studies and Projects and reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will oversee project controls activities and provide guidance for the Capital Studies & Projects team. You will embed and manage high-quality project controls processes, systems and governance and monitor the team’s project portfolio. In addition, you will assist regional teams in delivering high-quality studies and project execution budget, schedules and estimates with thorough review processes. Given the location of Glencore’s assets, you must be proficient in building remote relationships in multiple time zones. More specifically, you will be expected to:
  • Develop, implement and manage project controls best practices processes, systems, tools and documentation according to the Capital Management Framework;
  • Monitor project performance metrics and take corrective actions as needed;
  • Provide leadership, guidance and development to regional project controls teams;
  • Collaborate with project managers, subject matter experts or area leads, regional controllers and other stakeholders to achieve project objectives;
  • Review and support regional project controllers with best practice schedule development, controls and analysis;
  • Challenge schedules and budgets to identify opportunities and risk mitigation strategies to optimise business outcome;
  • Develop, implement, maintain comprehensive dashboard to support decision making and cost predictability;
  • Review, train and assist the regional project controllers to deliver consistent controls that feed from individual study into the integrated controls platform;
  • Review and Audit project schedule for current study stage and for forward work plans;
  • Review in preparation of project the work breakdown structures (WBS) and the integration into the project schedule and budget;
  • Deliver monthly reporting, earned value analysis, schedule compliance, budget trend and change management for the Capital Studies and Projects team portfolio;
  • Monitor regional and project progress reports / submissions and provide feedback;
  • Maintain project control records and systems to auditable standard;
  • Communicate with project management team and business assets capital departments to review project deliverables cost and scheduling and support external audits.
Do you have what it takes?
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, Finance or any other related field or relevant experience;
  • A minimum of 10 years of direct experience in project controls and project management working for a professional services company / consulting office / resource company in a similar role ;
  • An understanding of the mining and resource sector, or major industrial projects and studies. Experience with operating industrial sites and project study work is advantageous;
  • Solid knowledge of project management concepts and previous exposure to the different project stages;
  • Experience with Global system development and implementation and controlling a large project portfolio with multi-functional studies;
  • Proactive, flexible and highly collaborative;
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build and develop remote relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Proficiency in using scheduling software packages, particularly Oracle Primavera Cloud, Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project. Knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems, PowerBi, SharePoint and database management tools is highly desirable;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage concurring priorities and deliver results in situations with significant ambiguity;
  • Ability to work independently, think creatively and analytically, and make quick and sound decisions.
Languages: English (oral and written). The knowledge of Russian, Spanish or French is desirable. Travel: You may be required to travel occasionally approximately 10% of your time. You must be willing to work with colleagues located in different time zones. Interviews may start prior to the closing date. This role can be based in Dorval (Canada) or in Brisbane (Australia).
