Position Overview 
Faster.Smarter.Safer. This is how Aecon Utilities is committed to delivering projects.  Aecon Utilities is ready to become Canada’s #1 utility construction provider and we’re looking for an Engineer in Training (EIT) to help us get there!

Reporting to the General Manager, Renewables, the Project Engineer (or EIT) will be responsible for contributing technical expertise to the design of renewable energy projects for our Utility clients, helping oversee and resolve technical engineering and construction challenges, and act as liaison to the client.

Current project locations: Brampton, ON and Newmarket, ON.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Review design and drawings to ensure that they satisfy all the applicable codes, regulations and client engineering requirements and specifications. 
  • Preparation of schedules, estimates and engineering requirement for construction packages and RFP responses.
  • Lead the development of project specific Quality Assurance programs to align with client requirements.
  • Provide onsite engineer support for construction and liaison with design engineering leads, internal and external.
  • Review construction practice to ensure complains with all codes and design requirement.
  • Experience with project management shall be considered an asset.
  • Significant focus on maintaining relationships with clients engineering, project development and project management teams.


Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or electrical engineering (or equivalent).
  • 3 – 7 years of relevant experience within the electrical/renewable energy sector.
  • P.Eng designation OR registration as an E.I.T. with the P.E.O.
  • Awareness or basic training in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. 
  • Proven people and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with diverse groups. 
  • Strong presentation skills, both written and oral. 
  • Strong computer skills required – experience with Auto CAD software, MicroStation, and 3-D software an asset.
  • Ability to travel for projects.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and leadership.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Renewable Energy Project Experience considered an asset
