Mission

We are looking for an Engineer-in-Training to join and grow with our dynamic, expanding Transportation team in Calgary. Being lead by senior support staff, you will work closely with our local and provincial transportation agencies across Alberta to deliver planning, design and construction services for roadways, highways, intersections, roundabouts and interchanges. We seek an individual who wants to be challenged and is ready to join a team of leading industry professionals and a dynamic, well established, multidisciplinary,  Canadian engineering firm .

You will have the opportunity to take part in our hybrid work model which includes flexible work hours, working from home and in our Calgary Office. You may also be required to do some field work.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Site visits to document pre-existing site conditions
  • Develop design criteria and prepare roadway improvements
  • Prepare conceptual and preliminary roadway, intersection and roundabout designs
  • Identification of site constraints and evaluation of options
  • Prepare design drawings with recommendations for simple to complex scenarios and technical memorandum, reports, presentations and graphics
  • Stakeholder engagement, and process summarization/documentation
  • Conduct construction site inspections, document daily activities, progress, deficiencies, and report back to the Project Manager
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (from an accredited university)
  • Currently registered as an Engineer In Training with APEGA, or ability to obtain within the next 6 months
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers’ Licence providing ability to travel for client meetings, to project sites, and to other CIMA offices for collaboration efforts (as required)
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with clients and internal stakeholders
  • Industry experience: e.g. internships, technical study, research paper/projects (strong asset)
  • Design experience using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and/or Bentley Inroads/Openroads software (strong asset)
  • Drafting experience using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation software (strong asset)
  • Roadway/highway construction experience with knowledge of conventional construction techniques and how they impact engineering design (strong asset)
