The City of Vancouver’s Legal Services Department has a temporary vacancy for a Solicitor (2 year term).

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide legal advice to a variety of City departments, including the FIFA Secretariat, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Finance, and Arts, Culture, and Community Services
  • Practice in a number of different areas of law and on a variety of projects, including:
    • FIFA World Cup 2026,
    • Public procurement of goods and services,
    • Construction,
    • Technology Solutions,
    • Infrastructure Projects,
    • Funding and Grant Agreements.
    • Corporate Governance
    • Municipal Law, and
    • Inter-Governmental Agreements and Relations

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Professional Law Degree and membership (in good standing) with the Law Society of B.C
  • At least five years of experience as a lawyer, practicing as a solicitor in a number of areas of law described above

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the proven ability to manage conflict situations effectively
  • Strong organizational skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines in a multiple task environment
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively leverage law office technology to increase productivity

 

Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work remotely 1 – 3 days a week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite. At this time this position is eligible to be part of the Flexible Work Program.

Position End Date:  July, 2026 

Salary Information: Pay Grade RNG-131: $154,969 to $203,905 per year
