Posting Title STO 21R - Engineering Technologist Position Classification Scientific/Technical Off R21 Union GEU Work Options Hybrid Location Vernon, BC V1T 9V2 CA (Primary) Salary Range $69,760.70 - $79,322.69 annually Close Date 6/11/2024 Job Type Regular Full Time Temporary End Date Ministry/Organization BC Public Service -> Ministry of Forests Ministry Branch / Division Okanagan Shuswap Natural Resource District Job Summary Two positions for an Engineering Technologist generalist are available in the Okanagan Shuswap area. The Ministry of Forests is responsible for supporting a sustainable and competitive future for B.C.'s forest sector, while taking action to keep forests healthy and protect communities in the face of climate change and extreme weather events. The Engineering Technologist works closely with the District Engineering Officer, the Engineering Team, and Branch to ensure the safety, environmental, and legislative requirements on Resource Roads are met in accordance with the Engineering Program Funding Policy. The positions are focused on administering the district resource road network. The positions entail implementing engineering projects with support of Engineering Branch Engineers, interacting with permit holders, stakeholders and the public, contract management, road and bridge maintenance projects, resource road inspections, and road design to support the achievement of the program. Resource roads - Province of British Columbia (gov.bc.ca) Job Requirements Note: This position does not require an engineering degree.
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Forest Technologist or equivalent with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Diploma, or higher, forest technology, natural resource management, forest engineering, or other related field such as survey geomatics or geoscience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid BC Driver's Class 5 Licence or equivalent.
Preference may be given to those with one or more of the following:
  • Experience in project and/or contract management relating to road construction or other forest management activity.
  • One (1) or more years of experience in one (1) or more of the following areas:
  • Road construction, maintenance, and deactivation; and/or,
  • Post-fire recovery and rehabilitation work; and/ or,
  • Road, bridge, and major structure project support; and/or,
  • Experience managing relationships with stakeholders and/or First Nations' communities.
Provisos
  • May be required to operate a variety of field equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of field work.
  • Must be willing and able to work in all/adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
  • Must comply with the safety standards of the Ministry and WorkSafe BC.
  • Must be willing to relocate to the Vernon, British Columbia area.
