Baggage Service Associate, Baggage Handling System

Baggage Handling System Associates are responsible for removing items that cause jams and will be required to perform physical baggage handling in the event of system failures. Other responsibilities include inducting, scanning, clearing, and monitoring bags to keep them flowing properly.

The MES (Manual Encoding System) Operator and Bag Jam Operators report to the Operations Supervisor and System Operator Controllers and will be required to report consistent baggage jams that occur on the conveyor belts and on the sorting system.

Must be able to work rotating shifts; including nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities:

• The primary function of the role is to induct bags onto the baggage system via the in-feeds in a methodical and procedural manner.
• Ensure smooth running of systems by attending to jams IMMEDIATELY and also making sure the system is not damaged after removing items that caused jam.
• Monitor and clear any blockages that prevents the flow of baggage.
• Hand scan every bag and fall back to keyboard mode if bags are not scanning, then promptly follow up with the control room.
• Physical baggage handling in the event of system failures.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years of baggage sorting experience or material handling equipment knowledge (preferred, but not required).
• Technical certificate/education preferred.
• Able to physically lift up to 50 pounds.
• Relevant or transferrable technical system knowledge.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English).
• RAIC Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain such clearance.
