POSITION FUNCTION
Perform custodial and janitorial functions and minor repairs and tasks related to the maintenance of the Crystal Pool and Fitness Centre.
KEY DUTIES
Mop, strip, wax and polish floors; shampoo carpets and use wet and dry vacuums; dust surfaces, clean, disinfect and restock washrooms; dispose of refuse and recyclable materials; sanitize pool decks, clean pool and hot tub waterlines and deck areas; clean sidewalks and outside stairs; operate various equipment such as polishers, power washers and pool vacuum; clean interior and external windows and interior walls and partitions.
Check building security and activate alarms; move furniture and equipment; set up meeting rooms as required; clean ceiling vents and ducts.
Perform minor repairs and tasks relating to the maintenance of pool and fitness equipment such as unclogging drains and identifying and reporting major issues and problems to supervisor. Monitor and replenish janitorial supplies as required, launder towels, mops, and rags in in-house laundry facility.
Participate in simulation drills and respond to mechanical failure alarm by following established procedures to assess whether Pool Operator staff person should be called in or if alarm response can wait for normal operation schedule. In the event of an accidental release of chlorine gas in the facility, act as late-night primary response team leader and contain leak by following established emergency procedures.
Removal of snow and ice accumulation by shovelling or applying environmental ice melter;
respond to service building request in Crystal Pool and other City owned buildings as needed.

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Organize and prioritize work.
Understand and carry out job related instructions.
Use power cleaning equipment.
Proficient in the use of SCOTT Air Pack System.
Read and understand labels and instructions.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
QUALIFICATIONS
Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:
Grade 10.
Building Service Worker course level 1, 2 and preferred level 3 (32 hours)
Chlorine awareness training (4 hours)
WHMIS (2 hours)
Current and valid class 5 BC Drivers licence
Required to obtain criminal record clearance.
Experience:
1 year of related janitorial experience in commercial buildings or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
OTHER:
May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.
Work schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday 9:00pm to 6:15am (35 hour work week)
$32.09 per hour, Pay Grade 4
