The Opportunity

Carewest is a wholly owned subsidiary of AHS. Carewest specializes in the continuing care sector and is the only post-acute short stay inpatient provider in Calgary. The role will include overseeing day to day operations, innovative program planning, implementation and evaluation that meet the needs of our clients and families, effective and efficient operational utilization of resources and strong collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
Reporting to a Director of Operations, this position is responsible for the daily leadership & management of the assigned units and program areas. While maintaining a resident-centered service delivery model, this position is responsible for working collaboratively with residents, families, and the interdisciplinary care team to ensure positive program outcomes are achieved. This role offers the successful candidate the unique opportunity to promote and enhance clinical excellence, leadership, and professional practice by way of process & quality improvement and change management. This position is responsible for ensuring the programs are compliant to and meet the Alberta Continuing Care Health Service Standards, sub-acute program standards, Health and Safety Standards and all Carewest policies. The position is accountable to providing effective and efficient clinical operations within a defined budget, providing management oversight and direction as well as coaching and mentorship to program staff
In keeping with Carewest’s Frame of Reference, the position is accountable to providing safe, quality care through process improvements and ensures that program principles and standards are in alignment with operational priorities. The position is responsible for other related duties as required
Program Summary
– This position will oversee a 38 funded bed MSK unit at Carewest Glenmore Park with an additional 2 surge and 2 overcapacity beds This unit has 6 post-acute amputee beds for Calgary zone and in addition serves clients that are poly trauma and complex orthopedics that require physical rehabilitation
Position Details:

Bi-weekly Hours: 77.50 FTE: 1.00 Shift: Days Shift Times: 0800-1615 Union: Non Union Management Rate of Pay: According to qualifications and experience


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor Degree in either Nursing, Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy.
  • Current registration with appropriate professional licensing college
  • Minimum of 5 years in a clinical operational leadership health care role
  • Progressive leadership experience in a healthcare environment; including leadership of teams of significant size, complexity and diversity.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal and engage with internal and external stakeholders
  • Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others
  • Commitment in building teams towards a common purpose
  • Proven ability to foster both internal and external partnerships
  • Build relationships with foundations and committees within Alberta
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of conflict resolution strategies
  • Client and Family focused with a commitment to providing high quality services
  • Ability to continually analyze effectiveness of strategies and implement quality and process improvements.
  • Demonstrates respect for culture and diversity
  • Able to demonstrate competence in the development of new programs and services to meet the needs of the population.
  • Previous experience managing in a unionized environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Rehabilitation experience
  • PROSCI change management modules or certification
  • LEAN, Six Sigma, or AHS AIW modules
  • Accreditation experience
