Job Summary
Reporting to an Operations Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent carries out plumbing, heating and associated systems-related work on the University campus.
Key Responsibilities
Installs, repairs and maintains plumbing and heating related devices such as but not limited to pumps, water distribution piping, valves, fixtures, back flow preventers and drainage interceptors,
Installs and maintains drainage systems including chemical resistant
Performs preventive maintenance tasks on designated plumbing and heating related equipment
Fits, aligns and tacks
Makes recommendations for upgrading plumbing systems based on best economical/professional judgement
Performs all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, National Plumbing Code as well as University and Government rules and regulations
Maintains a clean work environment
Assists other tradespersons as required
Performs other duties as required
Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
Valid Plumbing certificate of qualification as recognized by the Nova Scotia Department of Education. Red Seal Designation an asset
Completion of certified trades school program preferred
Five years recent and related journeyperson experience in construction and maintenance in a commercial or institutional environment. Apprentices will also be considered.
Experience in construction and renovation of laboratories would be an asset
Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and equipment specifications
Familiar with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, National Plumbing Code as well as University and Government rules and regulations
Ability to take direction - Reliable and punctual
Good communication and organizational skills
Must be willing and able to work overtime, respond to after-hours calls and be available for standby duties if required
Familiarity with microcomputers preferred
Knowledge of the tools of the trade
Ability to direct others in a foreperson capacity an asset
General safety, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Lock Out/Tag Out, and WHMIS training an asset
