About the Opportunity

This posting is for the Financial Services Officer (FSO) position in Finance reporting to the Assistant Manager, Continuing Care. The position is responsible for carrying out assigned financial functions for the Continuing Care Program and Services. The FSO is responsible for the transactional administration of DHW direct-funded programs; including supportive care, caregiver benefit, personal alert and self-managed care. The FSO actively participates in performing regular budget/audit reviews and year-end related activities pertaining to internal and external business operations to assist with decision making and liaises closely with NSH care coordinators, clients enrolled in the programs, continuing care service providers and the Department of Health & Wellness.

 

The FSO exhibits sound professional judgment and initiative while working within the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions and incorporates into daily practice the Core Competencies and Values of the organization.

 

*Provides financial support including, but not limited to the following:

  • Transactional processing for Continuing Care programs including DHW direct funding programs
  • Vendor and client reconciliations
  • Reporting monthly/quarterly/annually on key information and relevant indicators derived from the operational plan, systems, and outcomes to provide recommendations and appropriate, reliable and timely information for the Continuing Care Program;
  • Performing reconciliations of general ledger for operational expenses for DHW accountability reporting and for other programs such as, Self-Managed Care, Caregiver Benefit Programs, Personal Alert Assistance program and Supportive Care Program.
  • Performing periodic audits on various internal reporting/claim systems
  • Participating in Policy and Procedure development as required.
  • Participating in strategic input with continuing care support teams around operations, efficiencies and strategic changes to improve offerings & support.
  • Providing training and support for SAP and ICM as required;
  • Providing ad hoc reports as required.
  • Performing monthly forecasting and reporting of Provincial Continuing Care Programs


* Responds to inquiries from DHW and other external providers relating to financial information for specific business units by developing and utilizing spreadsheets and other media. 

* Promotes and maintains professional working relationships within and outside NSH, with other healthcare personnel and clients.

* Holds in confidence all matters pertaining to staff, residents, patients, clients and their families and information relating to the business of the organization

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Grade 12 plus post-secondary accounting diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in accounting or finance related healthcare required
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting and knowledge of MIS guidelines
  • Excellent collaboration, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and conceptual thinking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (listening, written and verbal), with the ability to communicate professionally with all levels of staff and the public demonstrating a high degree of tact, judgment and confidentiality when dealing with staff and clientele
  • Experience in engaging, mentoring and empowering teams and stakeholders in a collaborative, participative manner to respond to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of the organization
  • Superior organizational, critical thinking and sound decision-making skills, necessary to provide financial support/analysis on a wide variety of complex issues
  • Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail

Hours

Long assignment, full-time position, 70 hrs bi-weekly
Beginning as soon as possible with an expected end date of May 31, 2025 (Approximately 12 months)

Compensation and Incentives

$30.23 - $35.28 Hourly
