VIU Library is seeking a Client Services Assistant to provide library support to students and employees at our Cowichan and Nanaimo campuses. The successful candidate is committed to creating an exceptional user experience and contributing to a positive and high-functioning front-line services team.
The Client Services Assistant's Key Tasks Are - Delivering a variety of services, including circulation, research help, referral, reserves, interlibrary loans, equipment loans, photo ID card production, and collection maintenance.
- Promoting excellence in library services to VIU students and employees.
- Advocating for, and contributing to, a demonstrably collaborative and proactive workplace culture.
Required Qualifications Two-year Library and Information Technology diploma from an appropriately accredited institution. Minimum one years' public service library experience. Minimum six months' recent relevant academic library experience.
- Proficiency with standard office productivity software and other applications commonly used in an academic environment.
- Ability to perform moderate physical labour on a periodic basis, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Work effectively as a member of a team and alone.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to exceptional customer service standards.
- Ability to work effectively with students, employees and the public.
- Experience handling credit card and debit transactions.
- Paraprofessional level reference skills.
- Paraprofessional level knowledge of bibliographic records.
- Proven ability to perform duties quickly, accurately and efficiently under stressful conditions and deal with constant interruptions.
