Job Summary Provide direction and expert advice Context: The Ministry ofWater, Land and Resource Stewardship is accountable for integrated land and natural resource management, including objective setting for land and marine environments, effectively managing cumulative effects, and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, environmental sustainability, and economic growth.
The Role :Reporting to an excluded manager at the Business Leadership level, the Section Head, Water Allocation, is accountable for supervision of staff at the professional or specialist level. This position manages staff and financial resources, ensures achievement of and evaluates the outcomes of program goals and applies legislation, policies and adherence to professional standards. The Section Head leads projects and strategic initiatives to address large-scale and controversial issues within its geographic area.
Job Requirements - Degree in a related natural resource professional field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association, and a minimum of 3 years experience supervising staff.
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area (i.e. Institute of Agrologists, Engineers & Geoscientists of BC, Association of Forest Professionals).
- Note:Primary example of immediate eligibility of registration is being currently registered as a professional in another Canadian province and that registration can be immediately transferred to the BC professional association of your specialty area.
- Experience managing technical and/or professional staff in resource management or infrastructure development.
- Experience in negotiating/mediating solutions with stakeholders in natural resource management.
- Comprehensive experience in regulatory management in the applicable natural resource field.
- Experience supervising, leading, coaching and mentoring staff.
Preference may be given to applicants with 1 or more of the following:
- Recent (within the last 5 years) experience in BC with water allocation.
- Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes (i.e. Water Sustainability Act) that support natural resource management relating to water allocation and management.
- Direct experience and/or education in hydrogeology and/or hydrology.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
