Purpose
The Principal Platform Engineer within GBME(Global Banking Markets & Engineering) Platform Engineering oversees the successful delivery of business strategies, plans and initiatives that are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
Accountabilities
- Responsible for driving the direction GBME Platform Engineering, assisting management and other senior technical leaders create strategic roadmaps, and driving priorities to meet various objectives
- Manages GBME Platform Engineering, DevOps Team, overseeing workload distribution, strategy and overall delivery.
- Collaborates and makes proposals across several teams on their engineering work, and helps their team members make informed decisions in alignment with the sub-department strategic plans.
- Proactively identifies opportunities to reuse or generalize existing services and product features. Avoids duplication of effort by encouraging collaboration.
- Implement and deliver ongoing strategy to allow successful adoption of DevOps within GBME.
- Design and implement the core infrastructure components of platform that application runs on considering factors such as scalability, fault to tolerance, and security.
- Collaborate with business / application development teams to ensure the platform can support the business logic and support application workloads effectively.
- Automate product development life cycle.
- Monitor and troubleshoot platform builds to ensure optimal performance and availability. Ensure upgrades are handled in a timely manner which helps in reducing EOL currency issues.
- Accountable for and critical to building a high-trust culture environment to support psychological safety, defining structure and clarity within teams.
- Communicating the meaning and impact of work, promoting cross-pollination of knowledge within the organization, and monitoring progress and adaption to necessary changes to achieve the goals.
- Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
- Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.
Education and Experience
- GBME platform engineering (Multiple business lines) – platform build, enhancement and support.
- Key Technologies - private/public cloud, Kubernetes, Rancher, Elasticsearch, Airflow etc.
- Operating costs – Reduce operation cost while maintain quality delivery.
- Computer Science Diploma or Degree; or related work experience
- Must possess technical proficiency sufficient to effectively perform these activities.
- Requires extensive understanding of project management principles and methodology as well as Scotiabank's IT Roadmap.
