Job Description - Psychotherapist, Service Coordinator

LOCATION: Toronto, ON 
POSITION TYPE: Full-time Regular (37.5 hours/week)

Lumenus is currently filling full-time permanent positions in a number of our programs in both the our Intensive (Day and Live In) Programs and Community Counselling Programs.

Intensive (Day and Live In) Services: The positions have a focus within Lumenus’ Day and Live-in Treatment programs to provide children, youth and adults and their families who have mental health concerns and/or a dual diagnosis (mental health and developmental disability) with Family and Individual Counselling and Service Coordination.

Working as a team member with other service providers, both external and internal to Lumenus, you will also provide services to children, youth, adults and their families in navigating services and support.

Community Counselling Services: 

DBT Services: The positions have a focus on providing Intensive DBT Services including individual, group and family therapy and DBT Skills Coaching. Support is provided to staff in weekly DBT Consult Team meetings which are essential to helping DBT therapists monitor their fidelity to the model, increase their skills, monitor their burnout and sustain their motivation when working with high-risk, youth. The successful candidate will also offer walk-in counselling with our Youth Wellness Hub Ontario site which offers a wide range of services for youth aged 12-26 and their families. This position also provides some Psychotherapy for clients in the Community Counselling Services as outlined below.

Community Counselling Services: The positions have a focus on providing Psychotherapy/ Service Coordination/ Group work to children, youth and their families who have mental health concerns and/or a dual diagnosis (mental health and developmental disability).

Brief Services: The positions have a focus on providing Brief Psychotherapy/ Service Coordination (Single session and up to 8 sessions) to children, youth and their families who have mental health concerns and/or a dual diagnosis (mental health and developmental disability). 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

All Positions
• Provide a range of clinical services (individual, parent, family therapies) including goal directed Psychotherapy, Single Session, Brief Psychotherapy, Long term Psychotherapy, parent coaching, group work, according to client needs and as required in the position;
• Assume the intake function with clients and their families, work collaboratively with all involved, complete Assessments, set goals and service plans from a systems perspective. 
• Participate in the carrying out of Assessment and Outcome measures as required. 
• Work collaboratively with the school, health and child welfare systems to ensure integrated and coordinated service to assigned youth/families;
• Participate in team meetings, supervision and consultations on a regular basis to provide quality of care;
• Identify and advocate on behalf of youth and families to address gaps in service;
• Maintain effective working relationships with the referral sources and other service providers as required.

Specific Additional Responsibilities: 
Intensive (Day and Live In) Services:
• Work very collaboratively with a transdisciplinary team delivering intensive services and the collateral professionals who provide consultation including assessments and treatment
recommendations (psychiatrists, psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapist);
DBT Services: 
• Provide Individual DBT informed therapy based on a thorough Biosocial Assessment, for youth age 14-18, Co-facilitate DBT skills group for youth and their caregivers, provide DBT Skills Coaching to youth as needed, and be an active participant in weekly DBT Consult Team;

Community Counselling and Brief Services: 
• Provide Single session services in the What’s Up Walk In. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

• M.S.W., M.A., or equivalent with at least 2 years of professional experience or combination of education and experience;
• Registration with the OCSWSSW or CRPO is required.

 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

• Excellent assessment and intervention skills with youth/families and relevant experience providing individual and family therapy to children and or youth;
• A solid understanding and clinical experience with the Bio-Psycho-Social Model, as well as clinical evidenced-informed practices such as CBT, SFT, EFT/EFFT, Narrative, DBT, attachment and trauma-informed work;
• A strength-based philosophy of service provision and a belief in the resiliency of children, youth and families;
• A capacity to build and nurture working relationships with partner agencies;
• A self-starter with an ability to work independently, as well as within an established team structure;
• Solid understanding of the Anti-oppressive framework.
• Able to demonstrate knowledge of autism and/or dual diagnosis and the impact on the clients and their families.
• Knowledge of LGBTQ, racialized, and newcomer communities, and youth with a dual diagnosis (mental health and developmental disability) and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as well as lived experience of racism, ableism, homophobia, or transphobia are advantageous;
• Well-developed computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft applications;

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Screening process;
• Flexibility and ability to travel to work in different office locations, schools, home, community as needed;
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings;
• Fluency in Spanish, Tagalog, Korean, Cantonese, Mandarin, French, or Vietnamese is an asset.
