Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Director - Provincial Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, the Director - Laboratory Medicine is a member of the Provincial Pathology and Laboratory Medicine senior leadership team and will be accountable for providing leadership, vison and strategic direction to the Laboratory Medicine teams within the Western and Labrador-Grenfell Zones of NL Health Services.

The Director will be accountable for the delivery of all laboratory medicine services within the Western and Labrador-Grenfell Zones of NL Health Services. The Director will lead a team of highly skills health professionals, managers and support staff fostering a patient and family-centered culture of safety and continuous quality improvement. The Director will be responsible for operational and strategic planning, quality and risk management, fiscal and resource stewardship, and the management and development of staff.

The Director will work collaboratively with the Provincial Pathology and Laboratory Medicine leadership team as well as with other NLHS leaders, and internal and external stakeholders to build partnerships and provide a quality and comprehensive service.

Job Qualifications
Education
A bachelor's degree in a health-related discipline is required.
A master's degree is preferred.
Experience
Minimum of five years' recent progressive management experience in clinical laboratory within a large healthcare organization is required, including experience with continuous quality improvement.
Significant recent experience in managing projects of a complex nature is required.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
Significant clinical knowledge of healthcare systems, preferably clinical experience in the provision of services at a regional and/or provincial level.
Highly developed negotiation, time management, problem-solving, Human Resource Management and decision-making skills.
Extensive experience in use of lean and change management practices.
Demonstrated ability to function in a high pressure, diverse and changing environment.
Proven senior management and leadership abilities, and excellent communication, interpersonal and teambuilding skills.

Other
Current and continuing registration/licensure with NLCHP.
Travel throughout the Zones may be required.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
