Treasury Board and Finance, Edmonton – Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA) is responsible for the collection of revenue and the administration of Alberta’s tax, revenue and related benefit programs. The focus of our organization is to ensure a fair, efficient and effective provincial tax and revenue system.

Business Solutions within TRA provides a diverse scope of services to the Branch and to Alberta Government Ministries, in the support of Collections and Recoveries activities. The Paralegal Services teams within Business Solutions perform activities such as management of highly sensitive portfolios and paralegal services involving collection, legal and enforcement actions.

Role Responsibilities

Key responsibilities for the Team Lead role are:
• Determining Collections and Paralegal Services requirements and communicating priorities to the team.
• Leading a team of paralegals providing specialized services to GoA Ministries.
• Managing collection and legal work initiated/completed on GoA Ministry files.
• Approving/recommending file actions in accordance with GoA Ministry policies and Alberta Rules of Court.
• Documenting/maintaining business process maps/documents, procedures, forms/letters, which promote standardized approaches to file resolution.
• Working collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external clients on diverse issues and resolutions. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and be able to analyze a variety of information provided by third parties including agencies, counsel, the courts and other government departments and understand how it affects the collectability and enforcement of an account.

Qualifications

A University degree in a related field (e.g. Paralegal Studies, Business Administration) supplemented by a minimum of four (4) years progressively responsible related experience, or a related paralegal diploma, supplemented by 6 years of extensive experience in a civil litigation/civil enforcement environment. Required experience includes:
• Supervision of staff in a team environment
• Sound knowledge of legislation pertaining to civil litigation in a collections environment
• Strong MS Office skills Asset(s) for this role include:
• Commissioner of Oaths in Alberta Equivalency:
• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or

This is a permanent, full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday. This position will be located in Downtown Edmonton.
