Given Our Commitment To Growth And Excellence, We Are Currently Seeking Candidates For The Following Position Job Title: Technical Services Engineer – Powerplant Systems Department: Maintenance Location: Calgary, AB (YYC) Work Arrangement: This role is primarily based in the office environment Position Overview The Technical Services Engineer team at Flair plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the airline's fleet. This integrated team includes specialists in reliability, structures, airframe systems, electronic systems, powerplant systems, and maintenance programs. Responsibilities range from expediting aircraft return to service, supporting continuous improvement, and maintaining structural health to overseeing program compliance and developing maintenance procedures. Collectively, the team works to optimize fleet performance and safety under the guidance of the Technical Services Manager or designate. In the capacity of a Technical Services Engineer specializing in Powerplant Systems (TSE-PS) at Flair, this role serves as the primary technical expert responsible for providing comprehensive support and expertise regarding all aspects related to the airline's aircraft engines, auxiliary power units (APUs), and associated systems. This pivotal role involves offering technical assistance to operational departments and repair providers, ensuring regulatory compliance, optimizing fleet performance, and maintaining the reliability and airworthiness of the airline's powerplant systems, thereby contributing to the safe and efficient operation of its fleet. Primary Job Functions The duties of the Technical Services Engineer – Powerplant Systems include:
  • Provide technical support to operational departments and repair providers to ensure efficient aircraft operations, engine repairs, and maintenance
  • Analyze aircraft reliability data and implement necessary corrective actions through engineering modifications and repair protocols to meet aircraft technical dispatch reliability targets
  • Establish and maintain build standards and specifications for engines, powerplants, APUs, and related components
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for troubleshooting assistance on assigned subjects
  • Develop and issue engineering orders for repairs, modifications, and alterations to engines, powerplants, components, and accessories
  • Create engineering procedures, standards, and process specifications to ensure compliance with Airworthiness Directives and other regulatory requirements
  • Provide instructions and documentation to support cost-effective operations and ensure timely return of aircraft to service in a safe and airworthy condition
  • Evaluate OEM Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives (ADs), and Notices of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRMs) for implementation, and generate necessary engineering documentation based on recommended actions to assess proposed engine modifications' effectiveness
  • Monitor fleet performance using GE Diagnostics/FMX and implement corrective actions and improvements to maintain fleet health and prevent operational issues.
  • Coordinate engineering activities with manufacturers, maintenance representatives, repair & overhaul (MRO) facilities, external engineering departments, regulatory authorities, and other relevant agencies
  • Assist in investigations related to safety, regulatory compliance, and reliability concerns.
  • Evaluate damaged engine parts and propose solutions within regulatory and original equipment manufacturer guidelines
  • Review the Powerplant section of the Aircraft Maintenance and Inspection Program, and suggest changes to the maintenance program and associated documentation
  • Identify and assess new technologies that could enhance the operational performance and reliability of engines and components
  • Offer technical support for engine leasing and returns
  • Perform any other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements The preferred candidate should exemplify Flair's core values of Respect, Integrity, Reliability, and Resilience while demonstrating success in previous roles. Additionally, we are seeking individuals who possess:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aeronautical, or astronautical engineering or holder of Transport Canada AME M license for 10+ years
    • FAA A&P or EASA B1 is an asset
  • Experience:
    • Minimum five (5) years of experience concentrating on Power Plant Systems of CFM/LEAP exposure within an Airline, OEM or MRO
    • Extensive experience with the Boeing product line
    • Previous experience with computer-based maintenance software, Swiss-AS AMOS is considered an asset
    • Proficiency in technical analysis and strong working knowledge of TCCA aviation regulations and certification requirements
    • Comprehensive knowledge of turbofan and turbine engine operation, encompassing dynamics, performance, and construction
    • Proficiency in leasing requirements and standard practices
    • Familiarity with failure analysis or root cause engineering, inclusive metallurgical analysis
    • Ability to understand and apply a wide variety of service, maintenance, engineering, and repair documentation
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a high-stress, deadline-driven, ever-changing work environment while prioritizing tasks and assignments
    • High degree of interpersonal and communication proficiency, including written, verbal, and presentation skills
    • Demonstrated analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment with multiple cross-departmental stakeholders
    • Ability to handle multiple priorities and manage projects to successful completion on tight timeframes
    • Proven planning and organizational skills as well as attention to detail

  • Requirements:
    • Clear criminal record check and satisfactory employment references
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
    • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without restriction
