Job Description - Director of Communications

Location: Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. This position offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement within Whitehorse, requiring regular weekly office attendance at the office. Only candidates based in Whitehorse will be considered.

One Yukon Coalition (OYC) is a not-for-profit organization forged from a holistic, partnership-driven approach to advancing community health and wellness priorities in the Yukon. OYC collaborates with communities, municipalities, and all levels of government to foster awareness and readiness for both current and future public health emergencies, and to deliver programs and services that support community health and wellness priorities. Our efforts include expanding wastewater monitoring networks and enhancing community testing and engagement through partnerships with participating Yukon First Nations, municipalities, the many partners including the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Government of Yukon.

The Role:

We are seeking a dynamic, polished, and hands-on Director of Communications who will lead the ongoing implementation of our communications strategy. This role demands initiative, creativity, strategic thinking, and a commitment to engaging diverse communities, particularly First Nation groups, through various digital and traditional platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

- Strategic Communication Leadership: Develop and execute comprehensive communication plans that align with OYC's strategic priorities and enhance its visibility and impact.

- Community and Stakeholder Engagement : Lead communications campaigns and initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, including First Nation communities, focusing on meaningful engagement and collaboration.

- Digital and Media Management: Management of social media and website content, and podcast programming, ensuring consistency and quality in messaging.

- Team Collaboration: Work closely with a cross-functional team, including executives, program leads and epidemiologists, to ensure integrated communication efforts and information accuracy across all channels.

- Executive Collaboration: Forge strong relationships with internal and external senior leaders, providing strategic communications counsel to influence outcomes and drive organizational results.

What You Will Bring:

- Education and Experience : A post-secondary degree in Communications or a related field, complemented by at least 10 years of relevant experience, including significant experience working in the health sector.

- Communication Skills: Exceptional writing and strategy development skills, with a demonstrated ability to craft engaging content across various platforms.

- Creative and Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in employing a wide range of communication tactics, including digital media tools and platforms (Wordpress, Canva, Buffer, Mailchimp, etc.).

- Leadership and Project Management: Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects, delivering high-quality results within budget and time constraints.

- Cultural Sensitivity: First-hand experience and a deep understanding of First Nation communities, with a commitment to culturally sensitive communication.
