Job Description - HEALTH EDUCATOR STAF

Job Description Under the direction of the Manager, the Health Educator will assess families for program entry, plan and deliver training, manage data and statistical requirements, collaborate with all KidsFirst team members and community partners, participate in quality assurance initiatives and program development and service delivery to support KidsFirst prenatal/postnatal moms and their families through culturally-responsive care. Job Qualifications Required Qualifications
  • Recognized Baccalaureate Degree in a Health-Related field. Must have current practicing registration with the applicable licensing body.
Experience Requires a minimum of one (1) year (postgraduate) recent recognized experience in a community program working with children, youth and families within the community. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Knowledge of how to approach elders for teaching and programming.
  • Ability and willingness to adapt to change.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, work evenings/weekends as required and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to apply research findings and best practice models into all aspects of program delivery.
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data in computer database systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively as a member of a multidisciplinary team and ability to independently manage complex and multiple demands while co-coordinating workload.
  • Ability to work independently and make independent decisions while working effectively with others as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and develop working relationships with individuals, groups and communities, including KidsFirst families and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated use of family-centered, strength based approaches.
  • Demonstrates understanding of dynamics of mistreatment and neglect.
  • Extensive Knowledge of Indigenous culture, values and traditions.
  • Familiar with community resources and services.
  • Familiar with principles of population health promotion, primary and secondary prevention strategies and community development.
  • Group facilitation skills and understanding of adult learning principles.
  • Intermediate ability with computer applications.
  • Knowledge and practical application of the Health Information Protection Act and other legislation that impacts the work of clinicians in clinical settings Ability to cope with stress.
  • Knowledge of families new to Canada.
  • Knowledge of the diversity of cultures, values and traditions and their impact on accessing health services.
Other Information
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet client and operational needs.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • HSAS seniority within the Saskatchewan Health Authority will be considered under the Selection Criteria.
