Job Description - Operations Manager, Continuing Education

Term of App't: Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week

Start date: Immediately

Reporting to: Dean of Continuing Education

Salary/Benefits:

Excluded position: Grid 10, $85,711.00 - $114,281.00 annually, depending on experience and qualifications as per NLC's Excluded Salary Scale. An excellent benefit package is offered, including extended health and dental benefits. Annual vacation is pro-rated and front-loaded, based on 210 hours/FTE, as well as time off paid for the period between Christmas and New Year's Day. Enrolment in the College Pension Plan is mandatory for those in this role, with the standard contributions matched by the employer.

Description:

Reporting to the Dean of Continuing Education, the Operations Manage r is responsible for operational leadership within the Continuing Education (CE) department - having overall responsibility for the systems operations and supervisory responsibility for assigned clerical staff, while ensuring the successful delivery of all continuing education programs.

The Operations Manager will ensure that systems and services are managed effectively and efficiently with adherence to the highest standards of operational efficiencies, customer service, and continuous improvement. They are expected to assess workflows and establish processes and procedures that enhance program delivery, and service to learners. They will be responsible for the creation, implementation, and enforcement of CE departmental policies and procedures.

Working collaboratively with the Program Coordinators in the CE department, the Operations Manager is expected to utilize flexibility and creativity to support the programming and fiscal goals that have been identified. The Manager works with the team to establish and implement an institutional culture of learning, entrepreneurism, and customer service. This individual must be a strategic and system-wide thinker, and skilled at fostering operational efficiency.

Within the financial scope of this role, the Operations Manager will prepare and analyze reports - identifying program and operational improvements, identifying opportunities for efficiency, future development, and providing recommendations to the Dean which will initiate changes and/or establish new systems as appropriate.

*** Travel will be required within the geographical area.

*** This term position will continue until return of incumbent.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelors' degree in a relevant field of study (e.g., Business Administration, Adult Education, etc.), with three (3) years of supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Five or more years of related business experience, with a demonstrated ability to improve results through creating and developing effective systems.
  • Previous experience with proposal and/or business plan writing skills.
  • Will demonstrate strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply College, government, agency, and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Experience with budget development and administration.
  • Excellent knowledge of Employment Standards Act, with the ability to understand current collective agreements.
  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated ability, in corporate/core competencies including customer service, communication, teamwork, initiative/self-management, and accountability.
  • Ability to travel and work outside regular business hours as required.
  • Project Management certification would be an asset.
  • Intermediate skills with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Current, valid driver's license.
