Harbour Estates Winery has an immediate opening for a skilled kitchen hand/cook with a passion for culinary arts!
If you enjoy creating fantastic dining experiences for customers and are reliable, consistent and creative, this is the position for you. The kitchen hand/cook must be prepared to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure work environment, while maintaining the organizational ability to identify and act on job duties quickly and effectively. The ability to work flexible hours including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays
Duties & Responsibilities
- Work as part of an experienced team to prepare and execute lunch / dinner service, private events, catering, weddings, concerts & tasting menus
- Set up stations according to restaurant guidelines
-able to duplicate chef's recipes and plating
- Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods
- Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies
- Has understanding and knowledge to properly use and maintain all equipment in station
- Handles, stores and rotates all products properly. Exercising FIFO and product labelling / dating standards
- Assists in food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed
- Maintains a clean and sanitary workstation area that meets food health & safety standards
- Meets personal hygiene requirements at the start of each shift
- Closes & opens the kitchen properly and follows the closing checklist for kitchen stations
- Performs additional responsibilities, as requested by assistant manager
Skills & Experience
A minimum of two years experience is required
- Good working knowledge of culinary terms and practices
- Knowledge of methods and procedures for serving food, principles of sanitation, and principles of safe food handling required
- Demonstrated knowledge of food and catering trends, quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation required
- Demonstrate good customer service skills with understanding of customer expectations
- The ability to excel in a fast-paced environment characterized by evolving priorities
- Demonstrate strong initiative, reliability, and a sense of pride in all aspects of work
- Superior time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
- Effective communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
Qualifications:
- Professional diploma or food services management preferred
- Event/Hospitality: 2 years
- Kitchen preparation and cooking: 2 years
- License/Certificate: Food Safe, SafeCheck, or Food Handler (preferred)
