Academic Clinical Immunologist/Allergist or Clinical Pharmacologist Date Posted: 04/30/2024 Closing Date: 06/01/2024, 11:59PM ET Req ID: 37149 Job Category: Faculty - Clinical Faculty/Division: Temerty Faculty of Medicine Department: Dept of Medicine Hospital Affiliation: Sunnybrook Health Science Centre Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto) Description: The Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and the Division of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre are inviting applications to fill an academic Clinical Immunologist/Allergist or Clinical Pharmacologist position. This position will be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto with a position description of either Clinician in Quality and Innovation (CQI) or Clinician Teacher (CT) at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. The position is expected to be 70% clinical and 30% related to either quality improvement or teaching. The expected start date is November 1, 2024, or another mutually agreeable date thereafter. The successful candidate will have clinical expertise in the assessment and management of adverse drug reactions (ADRs), with particular experience in the assessment, testing, and management of patients with suspected drug allergy. This includes expertise in skin testing, patch/intradermal testing, oral drug challenge, and the management of adverse reactions including anaphylaxis and delayed hypersensitivity reactions. Candidates applying for a CQI role must have advanced training in quality or innovation, as well as a proven academic record of excellence in quality improvement, with evidence of scholarship such as peer reviewed publications, presentations or awards. Candidates applying for the Clinician Teacher role should have advanced training and/or a track record of teaching accomplishment. Teaching accomplishment will be evaluated by the presence of a strong level of interest in education, excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, formal training in teaching methodology, teaching awards, leadership as a clinical educator and other relevant experience. The successful applicants will join the Division of Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, which provides inpatient consultation services for all manner of ADRs, and ambulatory care related to the evaluation of drug allergies at the Sunnybrook Drug Safety Clinic. The successful applicants’ primary clinical work will take place within the Drug Safety Clinic, but opportunities will also exist to evaluate inpatients with ADRs including DRESS, SJS, TEN, angioedema, DILI, and those requiring acute desensitization. In addition to providing excellent clinical care, successful applicants will liaise with primary care, supervise of trainees in a clinical care setting, engage in formal teaching and maintain a scholarly record of achievement. Successful candidates must hold an MD degree; have or be eligible for certification in either Clinical Immunology and Allergy or Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and have or be eligible for licensure to practice from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Estimated annual remuneration will be in the range of $250,000-$400,000 (fee-for-service estimate) commensurate with academic rank, qualifications, experience, and volume of patients seen. The successful candidates will be eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered.
