The Opportunity Accountable to the Managers of the Ambulatory Surgical Care and Ambulatory Care, Regional Poison Centre and NSIPP, the Clinical Leader Development (CLD) plans, develops and implements educational activities at a program/team based level across the Children’s Health Program, to foster the development of competencies (in staff). Participates actively in the development of Children’s Health Ambulatory Care staff through coaching and mentorship and by sharing knowledge and resources, and providing feedback. Provides clinical practice support to all health care team members and patients. Functions as a change agent by thinking reflectively, assessing alternatives and supporting change. Participates in the recruitment and selection of personnel to attend appropriate education programs, events, conference, etc. ensuring limited resources are allocated fairly and equitably. Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
  • Providing orientation to new staff members and preceptors including roles and responsibilities.
  • Acting as a resource to preceptors for ongoing preceptor development.
  • Coordinating learner placements for nursing practice.
  • Acting as a clinical resource related to patient care, continuing education, development and/or review policies, objectives and guidelines.
  • In collaboration with the Professional Development Consultant, plans educational programs to meet identified learning needs.
  • Acting as a liaison among healthcare team members in identifying trends in patient care.
  • Acting as a liaison with other IWK CLD’s/Rehab Coordinators to initiate and facilitate Program and centre-wide initiatives.
  • Uses knowledge of theories of human communication and interpersonal relationships to facilitate communication among staff.
  • Provides leadership in the delivery of evidence-based care and facilitates the integration of research into meeting established patient care standards/guidelines/protocols.
  • Seizes informal and formal learning opportunities to educate colleagues.
  • Supports care area-based strategic plans and initiatives.
Hours of Work Monday - Friday (7.5h and 3.75h shifts). Hours to be determined. Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required (candidates with commensurate experience and education will be considered). Master’s Degree Preferred.
  • Registered with NSCN, or eligible to be registered, required.
  • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required.
  • Recent (within the last 5 years) prenatal care nursing experience required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience in Pediatric Nursing Care required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience in Pediatric Ambulatory Care preferred.
  • Clinical expertise in prenatal care nursing required.
  • Relevant and recent experience as a clinical nurse educator is preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in promoting learning and clinical development required.
  • Proven team building and leadership skills.
  • Skilled in the facilitation of concept-based learning, collaborative learning, and practice development.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills required, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership, mentoring, interpersonal, problem-solving, decision making and organizational skills required.
  • Demonstrated facilitation and presentation skills required, as well as team-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team required.
  • Demonstrated visionary regarding trends in prenatal care.
  • Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and ability to create an environment where ongoing learning and development is promoted and supported required.
  • Demonstrated expert negotiation and conflict resolution skills required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and practice required.
  • Competency in other languages considered an asset.
