Job Description - Clinical Psychologist- Neuropsychology services

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included. This post is permanent for 30 hours per week. (Please note the salary is Pro Rata) for part time hours. Clinical Psychologist – 8a - Major Trauma Neuropsychology This post provides highly specialist psychological care for patients within the major trauma ward, ICU, Hyper acute and rehabilitation units under the “Saving life’s, giving life’s back” Scottish Government Plan for major trauma care. Psychological care is essential for the development of holistic assessment and treatment programmes following major trauma. The Clinical Psychologist provides assessment of risk and mental status, assessment and treatment of mental health and cognitive impairment, while supporting, teaching and training staff and families on the importance of psychological care in the context of recovery. The Clinical Psychologist's aim is to promote recovery, discharge from hospital, and reduce failed discharge. Failure to provide this service will reduced quality of patient care, promote lengthier admissions and higher risk of failed discharge. Without the appropriate assessment and treatment planning from psychology there is an increased risk to patient, other patients and staff from agitated and challenging behaviour, poorer outcomes and reduced psychological support network for the acute and level 2 rehabilitation clinical care teams. Although the post is primarily based in the Major Trauma team the post holder will also be expected to work flexibly across regional neuropsychology services (neurology, neurosurgery, neurorehabilitation, spinal and prosthetics) based on service need. Owning to the high prevalence of neuro-trauma in the Major Trauma population and the need for flexibility in service provision across a range of neuropsychology settings the post holder must have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and be registered with the HCPC. Advanced knowledge of neuropsychological assessment tools and their interpretation would be desirable. Experience of working in a neuropsychology/rehabilitation service, either in qualified experience or as part of the specialist placement in the DClinPsy degree, would be an advantage. The successful applicant will be organised, flexible regarding roles and tasks, and respond to the changing needs of the service Informal Contact: Dr Sharon Mulhern, Principle Clinical Psychologist, [email protected] .
