Job Description - Data analyst community health sciences

Description

The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Data Analyst . This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

COVID-19 pandemic brings long-lasting challenges to our healthcare system to meet the ever-increasing need for Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) services. Stress, anxiety, frustration, and isolation have been negatively affecting people's sleep, eating, substance abuse, and leading to worsening of chronic conditions and mental health. In addition, economic recession and related job and income losses could also further trigger substance abuse and mental health crisis. If leaving these SAMH needs unmet, it would lead to an increase in health care utilization, loss of productivity, reductions in quality of life, and even loss of lives.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Leadership in developing and implementing evaluation plan within the guideline provided by the PI
  • Prepare ethics modification application
  • Initiate and facilitate the data linkage of the CHIP data with the AHS administrative data
  • Develop and perform the plans for data management and data analyses using the linked data
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key project stakeholders
  • Provide primary support to the project Principal Investigators, identifying key strategic and governance issues, planning meetings, preparing reports and papers for consideration, and ensuring their decisions and requests are addressed and implemented
  • Contributes to the formulation of project evaluation plan, and leads developing and administering
  • Responsible for independently planning out work activities and controlling the quality of project evaluation performed
  • Identifies improvement opportunities and determines implementation strategies for initiatives. Implements processes to gather information and participates in data analysis to develop recommendations for improvement and act on the recommendations in collaboration with the Principal Investigators and other key stakeholders
  • Monitors and reports progress, as required, toward achievement of performance indicators and collaborates to analyze trends and meet targets

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Master Degree in Epidemiology or Health Sciences Research related field
  • Minimum 2 years working experience in statistical data analysis
  • Strong analytical skills and experience working with both patient survey data and AHS large health administrative data, such as: data linkage, data management, data matching, and statistical programing
  • Strong leadership and ability to facilitate cross-disciplinary meetings and collaborations
  • Strong ability to advocate, propose, negotiate, document and present approaches and solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to take a broad approach to problem solving
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in multi-disciplinary settings
