Position Respiratory Therapist (Operating Room) Status Temporary Full Time Department Respiratory Therapy POSTING #(S): 11301 (REPOST) Reports To Manager, Respiratory Therapy LOCATION: Ouellette Campus (Operating Room) Posting Date May 7, 2024 Shift Rotation Closing Date May 14, 2024 Salary Range AS PER THE CURRENT OPSEU 101 WAGE GRID Union OPSEU Repost JOB SUMMARY Reporting to the manager of the Respiratory Therapy Department, we are seeking a skilled and compassionate Respiratory Therapist (RT) to join our dynamic team in the Operating Room (OR). The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting surgical procedures by providing respiratory care services to patients undergoing surgery. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment alongside talented healthcare professionals. Key Responsibilities Provide respiratory care services to patients undergoing surgery in the operating room. Monitor patients' respiratory status before, during, and after surgical procedures. Administer oxygen therapy, bronchodilators, and other respiratory medications as prescribed. Collaborate with surgical teams to ensure optimal respiratory function during procedures. Respond to emergency situations and provide appropriate respiratory support as needed. Assist with fiberoptic diagnostic bronchoscopies, awake fiberoptic intubations, and difficult intubations. Set up for malignant hyperthermia (MH) cases. Provide assistance with all pediatric cases, including airway maintenance and inductions. Administer aerosolized treatments as required. Assist in the ordering and maintenance of respiratory equipment. Ensure adequate stock levels in the respiratory anesthesia unicell cart and maintain STATS sheet. Check the OR main desk for any diagnostic imaging (DI) procedures. Perform performance checks on all anesthesia delivery units (ADUs) and replenish stock as needed. Stock rooms 1 and 2 unicells with necessary equipment, such as reinforced endotracheal tubes (ETT), oral RAE tubes, and esophageal stethoscopes. Sterilize, check, and record dirty bronchoscopes in the main core Steris decontamination room. Maintain stock levels in pediatric carts and bronchoscopy carts. Ensure the difficult airway cart is stocked appropriately. Replace inner core CO2 absorbent canisters as needed. Insert lines QUALIFICATION / EDUCATION Must be a graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. REQUIRED Valid registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO). REQUIRED Previous experience in an operating room or surgical setting preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and part of a high functioning team Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
