The salary range for this position is CAD $54.19/Hr. - CAD $77.89/Hr.

As a Manager, Safety and Prevention with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Provide leadership and direction to a team of professional occupational health & safety staff across Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). 
  • Be responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff and visitors and to ensure compliance with organizational standards and legislative requirements, with a particular focus in the designated area(s) of specialty.
  • Lead the development and implementation of corporate occupational health and safety policies, programs and services.
  • Develop effective employee event reporting systems.
  • Develop effective injury and communicable disease prevention and exposure programs.
  • Ensure effective service delivery by monitoring adherence to health & safety programs.
  • Develop corporate-wide safety, education and orientation programs.
  • Monitor key indicators and reporting to senior management.
  • Develop communication strategies to promote health and safety issues across Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).
  • Liaise with Employee Health team members, HR Advisors, Directors, Managers, Department Heads, physicians and others to provide support, advice and influence decisions regarding regulatory compliance, safety awareness, health promotion, disease, injury and violence prevention and related issues. External contacts include WorkSafe BC, Industry Committees, Health Care Unions, other health care institutions as well as academic institutions.

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in a health sciences discipline, business or education, with a diploma in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years' progressive experience in a large multi-union organization or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or equivalent preferred.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to promote and enhance services provided.
  • Uses a comprehensive knowledge of health and safety and human resource theories/practices, legislation as well an understanding of a complex multi-union healthcare environment to identify, develop and implement strategies and initiatives, ensuring compliance with service level agreements.
  • Uses a comprehensive knowledge of program management, especially in relation to education and development.
  • Identifies emerging initiatives, trends and industry best practices and ensures full consideration in the development and implementation of service delivery goals and objectives.
  • Uses strong written communication skills in the development of business cases and marketing and promotional materials.
  • Uses creativity and innovation to develop new programs and initiatives that meet and/or exceed service level agreements in the creation of healthy healthcare workplaces for all organizations under the Integrated HR Service.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
