Job Description - Registered Nurse - ICU CCU

Your Opportunity The Critical Care unit at the Grey Nuns Hospital is a fast-paced, dynamic unit with a welcoming interdisciplinary team who provide exemplary care to the critically ill patient. Critical Care at this site includes the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU). The Grey Nuns Hospital is also the Northern Alberta Vascular Centre which specializes in vascular surgery and the ICU provides support for these complex vascular patients that may require ICU post operatively. The Critical Care RN provides safe and competent care for patients using critical care knowledge and principles of family centered care. The nurse maintains a high degree of professionalism and works with the multidisciplinary team to determine patient needs and set priorities. Critical Care staff also function as part of the hospital-wide Rapid Response and Code Team. Description The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses are also required: 1) CRNA Medication Administration Certificate - 2) NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification - PLEASE NOTE: This posting is scheduled to close at 23:59 of the posting end date but may be filled earlier if a Regular Employee who holds a position within this unit/program/office expresses their interest in this vacancy by 23:59 on the 5th calendar day following the posting date, under LOU #25. Additional Required Qualifications Strong interpersonal, stress management and conflict management skills. Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills. Excellent assessment, organizational and documentation skills. Preferred Qualifications Critical Care certificate or OPACCA (Critical Care Orientation Program) with 1 year of recent adult critical care experience. Medicine/surgery/ED experience. ACLS. If Critical Care orientation/certificate is needed: CH provides RNs with an opportunity to be enrolled in OPACCA. The unit will be responsible for course cost and salary obligations. The candidate will be required to sign a 12 month Return for Service commitment agreement, as outlined in the UNA Collective Agreement.
