Job Description - Research and Data Analyst

Status: Full time, indefinite Location: Ottawa, Ontario (hybrid) Closing date: June 5, 2024 Salary range: $76,000 to $95,000 per year CADTH is now Canada’s Drug Agency. Primary Focus Contributing to the advancement of Canada’s Drug Agency (CDA-AMC) data and analytics function as announced by Health Canada on December 18, 2023, by conducting robust research and data analysis to support improved health outcomes, with capacity development for appropriate prescribing and use, decisions to list/delist, among others. This role will support the CDA-AMC Data Systems and Analytics function by contributing to health outcome research and by translating data into practical analysis to support policy decisions and other core CDA-AMC functions. The Research and Data Analyst will play a pivotal role in delivering impactful insights that inform decision-making processes, which will be communicated through concise reports, briefing notes, and compelling presentations tailored for both internal stakeholders and external audiences. What do the daily responsibilities look like? On any given day, the Research and Data Analyst will:
  • plan and execute complex and rigorous health outcome research and analysis
  • analyze information and economic, scientific, and/or health data from multiple sources, including administrative databases, analytical platforms, pan-Canadian and government sources, and the internet
  • identify relevant trends and patterns represented by the data utilizing statistical packages and consolidating complex information into impactful and accessible insights that inform decision-making processes
  • contribute to building the internal knowledge and expertise related to pan-Canadian data systems and analytics strengths, weaknesses, gaps, and misalignments as well as awareness of the emerging international approaches to data and analytics
  • write and contribute to reports and briefing notes, summarizing research findings in a policy-ready format within the timelines of policy decisions
  • support the planning and preparation for pan-Canadian advisory panels, working groups, and committees comprised of both internal and external partners, and participate and contribute to bilateral and multilateral meetings with partners
  • support other CDA-AMC initiatives from a data and analytics perspective, including appropriate use.
Is this the right role for you? The Research and Data Analyst will likely have:
  • postsecondary education in a related discipline coupled with progressive related experience working in a multidisciplinary team, data driven environment that is normally attained over a 5-year period; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • knowledge of existing and emerging priorities related to health care, the pharmaceutical environment, and the role of the various interested parties
  • a solid understanding of the health data infrastructure in Canada and the available health data sources and databases, encompassing administrative databases, national health surveys, electronic health records, and disease registries
  • competence in health research methodologies, study design, and analytical techniques
  • experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including health care providers, researchers, policy-makers, and community members
  • ability to work in ambiguity while being proactive and resourceful to find solutions and adapt to changing priorities
  • ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, translating complex concepts and results of research into clear and concise language and a message that aligns with the organization’s goals and resonates with internal and external partners.

  • graduate degree from a recognized postsecondary institution with a specialization in economics, sociology, health science, data science, or statistics
  • ability to assess health outcomes, patient-reported measures, and health-related quality of life indicators to inform health care decision-making and resource allocation
  • fluency in French (written, verbal and comprehension).
