Your opportunity: The Senior Research Officer, Behavioral Research Lab (BRL) plays a key role in managing the day-to-day activities and functions of Rotman’s BRL. Reporting to the Manager, Research Services and in consultation with the Academic Director of the BRL, the incumbent is the administrative lead for the lab’s research activities and daily operations. They support the budget/resource allocation planning process, provide support to faculty members’ research through all stages of the process from design to ethics review and implementation of research studies.They are also responsible for assisting in the recruitment of students and research assistants. This position works closely with the Academic Director of the BRL to achieve the strategic research goals of the BRL and support the intensification of research at the Rotman School of Management. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating the use of lab equipment and resources with internal and external contacts
  • Assessing needs and contributing to the planning of research goals
  • Assessing and selecting methods of data collection and analysis for research projects
  • Overseeing the data collection and analysis processes
  • Supervising the activities of research assistants
  • Drafting and submitting documented procedures to the Research Ethics Board (REB) for approval
  • Interpreting guidelines and protocols to ensure approval levels are followed appropriately
  • Analyzing results and preparing statistical reports for research papers

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Social Sciences, or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum five (5) years experience working as a lab managerin the Social Sciences field
  • Minimum five (5) years experience/familiarity working with human participants in behavioural research studies


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Strong background or certificates in Analytics, Python, R, SQL, Javascript, Excel, NVivo, PRAAT software
  • Certificates in: TCPS-2 Core, Worker Health and Safety Awareness, TDG/IATA, Responsible Conducts of Research
  • Previous experience with EMG and EEG testing
  • Previous experience with Qualtrics, SONA, and R-World platforms
  • Demonstrated capability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision and a high level of accountability for achieving timely results
  • Proven ability to work with great efficiency, prioritize tasks effectively, work under pressure, and pay attention to detail
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to handle and resolve difficult situations in a professional manner
  • Familiar withUniversity of Toronto research ethics approval policies and procedures
